About this file
This is an insurance requirements exhibit (OS-52) established by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for contractors performing work under state contracts. The document outlines mandatory insurance coverage that all awarded contractors must purchase and maintain at their own expense throughout the entire contract term and any renewal or extension periods. Work cannot commence or contractor personnel cannot enter Department of Transportation property until all required insurance is in effect.
Contractors must maintain three types of insurance: workers' compensation coverage as required by Pennsylvania law for all employees performing contract work; comprehensive general liability and property damage insurance with minimum coverage of $250,000 per person and $1,000,000 per occurrence for bodily injury including death, and identical limits for property damage; and automobile liability insurance where applicable. All policies must be occurrence-based, name the Commonwealth or Department as an additional insured party, and include provisions requiring thirty days' prior written notice to the Department before cancellation or modification (fifteen days for non-payment of premium). Contractors must provide current certificates of insurance demonstrating these coverages and cancellation provisions, with relevant policy documents accompanying the certificates if necessary. Additionally, contractors must notify the Department immediately if they cancel insurance coverage at any time, and no work or property access is permitted during periods when insurance is not maintained.
