About this file
This document is a press release from Volusia County, Florida, detailing the Ocean Center's 40th anniversary and comprehensive reimagining project. The Ocean Center, a major convention and event venue located 400 feet from the Atlantic Ocean, is undergoing a transformative $40 million investment to modernize its facilities and refocus its mission. The venue, originally opened in 1985 as an arena/concert hall, has historically hosted high-profile artists and sporting events, and will now shift its strategic focus to emphasize conventions, conferences, and sporting events while expanding entertainment opportunities for the local community.
The Ocean Center contributes significantly to the local economy, having generated $114.3 million in economic benefit in 2024, attracting 513,000 guests, generating 88,000 room nights, and supporting 980 jobs. The reimagining includes numerous facility improvements such as new arena seating, LED lighting, enhanced sound systems, renovated restrooms and VIP suites, landscape enhancements, and updated wayfinding signage. The venue offers over 200,000 square feet of event space, including a 42,000-square-foot arena, a 93,000-square-foot exhibit hall, and multiple meeting spaces. The project also involves establishing a new vision, mission, programming, logo, and leadership to position the Ocean Center as a premier destination in East Central Florida.
