Text version

GRC Calorimeter Dimensions J-6 GRC Calorimeter Description and Dimensions The GRC calorimeter is a cryocooler based calorimeter. Two cryocoolers cool the inner test and guard sections (which comprise of the cold cylinder) to 20 K while a third cryocooler cools the outer wall (warm cylinder) to approximately 90 K. The cryocooler cooling the warm cylinder can be turned off to approximate a 300 K warm boundary temperature.

The effective outer diameter of the cold cylinder is 470 mm (18.5 inches) and the length of the cold cylinder is 1.22 m (48 inches). The effective inner diameter of the warm cylinder is 584 mm (23 inches), as such the maximum insulation test thickness is just over 50 mm (2 inches). Threaded hold downs (Clickbond 9210 V3-8) are in four places, every 60 degrees (+/- 548.5 mm and +/- 434 mm) along the cold cylinder for physical restraint of the insulation system if desired (no Velcro attachments will be allowed for the GRC calorimeter).

Edge guards (not shown) are mounted on either side of the cold cylinder preventing the test blanket from exceeding the cold cylinder length.
