Additional Information
An understanding of NOAA’s COVID‐19 mitigation protocol is helpful to vendors seeking to evaluate how to best provide testing services. In order to reduce risk to our crews and scientists living aboard ships at sea during scientific missions, all personnel planning to sail on the vessel move into separate hotel rooms for a week‐long shelter in place period. Only a minimum number of watchstanders will board the vessel during the shelter in place. The ship will also be sanitized during this period, and all personnel will take two COVID‐19 tests. Personnel are not allowed to move aboard the vessel until test results have been received. Once aboard, the ships will not “break the bubble” for several weeks, at which point the process is repeated.
Furthermore, any personnel scheduled to join the vessel during the “bubble” are required to shelter‐in‐ place for a week and provide two negative tests.
This is the context for the two scheduled events. Testers will likely be conducting testing to individuals while they are sheltered in place. Testers will not be expected to board a vessel to provide testing services.
