About this file
This is a Question & Answer Amendment to Solicitation No. NIST-AMD-TC-RQ-26-01477 for a Quantum Network pluggable 4-channel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector system.
The amendment addresses three key technical and specification clarifications. First, regarding timing jitter performance, the government confirmed that the required specification of less than 30 picoseconds (ps) Full Width Half Maximum (FWHM) jitter is mandatory and cannot be relaxed to 40 ps, as the system will operate with a continuous wave (CW) entangled photon source that necessitates low-jitter detectors below 30 ps. Second, the government clarified that the cryostat does not need to incorporate an integrated vacuum pump and can utilize a separate rack-mounted component, with a space allocation of 5.25 inches in height (3U) that must fit into a standard 19-inch rack. Third, the government rejected the acceptability of an 8U rack-space configuration, reiterating that the detector system cryostat must be rack-mountable at 3U (5.25 inches) in height to enable mounting into existing racks and portability between quantum network nodes. This amendment revises the Requirements document to reflect these clarifications and establishes firm technical constraints for vendor proposals.

Question & Answer (Q&A) Amendment No. 0002 Quantum Network pluggable 4-channel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector
Solicitation No. NIST-AMD-TC-RQ-26-01477
1. Question: The technical specifications in the Requirements document states the required timing jitter for the Four (4) SNSPDs is <30 ps FWHM jitter. Would <40 ps be sufficient?
Answer: A timing jitter of 30 ps or higher will not be sufficient, as we will be using these system in conjunction with a CW entangled photon source, which requires low-jitter detectors of less than 30 ps.
2. Question: Does the cryostat need to incorporate a vacuum pump, or can this be a separate rack-mounted component? In addition, what is the space budget for this?
Answer: The space budget is 5.25 in height (3U) and shall fit into a standard 19” rack and does not need to include the vacuum pump. The Requirements is revised to reflect this additional information.
3. Question: Is a cryostat and electronics system that occupies 8U of rack space acceptable for this requirement?
Answer: No, 8U is too large. See the response to item no. 2 above. In addition, as stated in the Requirements, the “detector system cryostat must be rack-mountable and 3U (5.25 inches) in height for mounting into existing racks and moveable between quantum network nodes.”
