Exhibition Program University Module Template Overview

Appendix #TBD

University module is an instructional resource related to an online exhibition that presents themes and historical perspectives, using text and visual/multimedia primary and secondary sources.

University module is a part of an exhibition website’s Education Resources section, and promotes use of the exhibition in undergraduate or graduate courses. To this end, the module offers a template for instructors to incorporate into existing courses or to develop new ones in higher education institutions.

Each module presents up to six hours of instructional materials, which may be adapted in part or wholly into a higher education course syllabus. In addition, the module includes “about the module” page that offers brief information about its author, suggested use, and targeted academic goals. The module is organized by the following three types—i.e., 3 different web buildout pages:

1. Module’s landing page: includes title (no more than 40 spaces) and class outlines that is uses as table of content for the module and links to all class and about-the-module pages.

2. Class page: outlines key concepts, instructional resources, and discussion questions for each class.

3. About the module page: summarizes a brief information about the module’s author, suggested use, and targeted academic goals.

1.Module’s landing page template includes the following:

• Module title: no more than 40 characters including spaces

• Description: provides a quick overview of what the lesson plan is about for educators to consider. The first paragraph is 1-2 sentences, which will be used as the lesson plan description on the Education Resources landing page. See an example Education Resources landing page at https://www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/graphicmedicine/resources.html.

• List of Classes: outlines class numbers/sequences, titles, and brief descriptions, and are hyperlinked to each class page.

2.Each class template consists of the following three elements:

• Introduction: summarizes the key concepts and historical perspectives to be explored in the class.

• Class Resources: cites primary and secondary sources of readings and other digital instructional materials for students to use in examining the key historical concepts and perspectives for the class.

• Discussion Questions: lists suggested start-up discussions building upon students’ understandings of and questions based on assigned readings or activities from the Class Resources

3.About the Module template outlines the following three items:

• author: outlines a brief information about the module’s author https://www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/graphicmedicine/resources.html

Exhibition Program

• suggested use: describes any pedagogical approaches that help other instructors in using the module in their existing or new courses—e.g., multi-disciplinary approaches, specific analysis/interpretive methods, etc.

• learning outcomes: lists key academic goals that the module focus on in its instructional resources and discussions
