About this file

The document is a Procurement Request Form and Project Overview Form for the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR), specifically for the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research (NERR) Coastal Resource Center Seal and Weatherize project. The proposed project will take place at the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve's Coastal Resources Center in Moss Point, MS, with a total projected cost of $150,000. The project aims to remove old rotting wood around building edges, soffits, and windows, and replace it with composite materials to make the building more resilient to storms and pest infestations, using sustainable and innovative materials.

The project's minimum qualifications require bidders to provide three professional references, proof of license and insurance, and experience with construction and weatherization. The scope of work includes removing rotten wood, sealing building edges and windows with expanding foam sealants, and coordinating with the GBNEER Facilities Manager. Deliverables include repaired building areas with specified materials, weekly email coordination, and monthly invoicing. The project is funded through a PAC award (ION 3000040250/2000010765) entitled "Increasing Resilience to Storms and Operational Functionality with Retrofits and Upgrades at Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve's Coastal Resource Center, Part 1".

Project Manager: Ayesha Gray
Funding Source Internal Order or Cost Center Number: 2000010765
Project Short Summary: The proposed project will take place at the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (GNDNERR) Coastal Resources Center in Moss Point, MS. The project will accomplish the following goal: to remove old rotting wood around windows and soffits, and seal and weatherize those areas of the building to make it more resilient to storms and resistant to pest infestations. Throughout the proposed project resilient and sustainable design components and materials will be used such as composite lumber to seal and weatherize.
Statement of Work Describe: 1.1 Remove all rotten wood along building edges, soffits and windows and dispose of and replace with composite material (when possible) resistant to wood rot and water damage that matches the color and character of existing building features. Where composite materials are not available in needed sizes, treated lumber will be used and fascia boards will be wrapped in metal to match existing roof flashing.

1.2 Seal all building edges, gaps in soffits and around windows with expanding foam such as FROTH-PAK Spray Foam Sealant by Dupont (see relevant information here) or other equivalent material to ensure the building is fully weatherized and protected from pest infestations.

1.3 Contractor will coordinate all activities with GBNERR Facilities Manager including regular visual inspections of work progress and provide regular written (by email) updates weekly.

Deliverables: Repaired building in specific areas identified in Figure 1 with specified materials Coordination with Facilities Manager on all work Weekly updates by email Monthly invoicing

Minimum Qualifications: Bidders will provide three professional references and proof of license and insurance. Experience with construction, weatherizing is required.
Additional Information: The proposed project will retrofit the building in the areas specified in Figure 1 to remove rotting wood and replace with composite or other durable material to seal, weatherize, and improve resilience to water/wind damage and prevention of pest infestations. To accomplish this sealing and weatherizing, we aim to use the latest innovations in sustainable and eco-friendly materials including composite wood (resistant to fire and rot) and expanding foam sealants that are made with sustainable non-toxic ingredients (e.g., FROTH-PAK Spray Foam Sealant by Dupont, see relevant information here).
