Replacement Windows for Dormer: Provide new wood windows capable of withstanding the effects of loads noted on the Structural Drawings. Provide new wood windows from same manufacturer listed for new wood sash, following same criteria and requirements noted for new wood sash.

Warranty: Both new sash and new windows shall carry a 2-year manufacturer’s window warranty and a 10-year manufacturer’s insulated glass warranty.

9. Please indicate which areas of the existing stone veneer are to be repointed, per section 04902. Paragraph 3.6A calls out six conditions requiring repointing, but for bid purposes can a quantity be provided, or can we furnish a unit price?

Selective masonry repointing has been deferred to Phase 2 of the project, no unit price is required. Cutting and patching of existing masonry for new openings and infill of existing openings indicated on the drawings includes pointing of new and exposed masonry joints.

10. Please provide a manufacturer for wood doors. Fire rated mineral core doors are not a millwork item.

SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1Algoma Hardwoods, Inc.

Eggers Industries

Maiman Company (The).

Material and construction quality requirements for interior and exterior wood doors, including warranty requirements, are included in Section 08212 – “Stile and Rail Wood Doors.”

11. Please confirm there are no fire alarm devices required in the attic. None are shown on FA105.

Answer: Correct. Fire alarm devices are not required in the attic.

12. Notes on FP001 and FP101 state that the antifreeze loop for the sprinkler system services Vault 025A and Electric Vault 025B. However, FP101 shows no piping and no sprinkler heads in these spaces. Please clarify.

Anti-freeze system will not serve electrical vault 025B and vault 025A, only the loading dock on the main level.

On drawing FP001, detail 11 shall be revised to list the loading dock as the sole area of protection for the antifreeze system.

On drawing FP101, keyed note #1 shall be revised to read: “Antifreeze cabinet, Refer to detail 11 on Drawing FP001 for antifreeze loop details. Antifreeze loop to supply loading dock on main level [drawing FP102].”

On drawing FP102, keyed note #1 shall be revised to read: “Antifreeze loop to supply loading dock on main level [drawing FP102].”

13. The existing lawn sprinkler system is referenced on P101W, but not shown on the civil drawings. What is the extent of the sprinkler system, just in the courtyard or all around the building?

Answer: The existing conditions below grade have not been surveyed, and as-built drawings are not available. The contractor shall verify the condition, location of the heads, valves and piping arrangement in the field prior to excavation and put proper protections in place. Any parts of the system removed during the project shall be reinstalled and the entire system restored to its original operability.

14. Two units are shown on the Electrical Radiant Heater Schedule on M601, ERH-1 and ERH-2. An ERH note on M206 states “Typ. for 3” and shows a mounting height for ERH-3 thermostat. Please confirm the quantity of radiant heaters.

Answer:

There should be two (2) ERH's specified. The notes related to ERH-3 are incorrect.

15. Below grade piping notes on M002 specify existing 6” CWS&R and 4” HWS&R from the Visitors Center to just outside the lower level mechanical spaces of the Library. Will these pipes have to be removed, regardless of condition, back to the point where drawing M002 shows them transitioning to 5” CWS&R and 3” HWS&R?

Answer:

If the existing pipes are found to be in good condition for reuse (proper joints, depth of bury/padding, and proper expansion compensation, etc), then the existing 6" CWS&R and 4" HWS&R may be used instead of installing new 5" and 3" piping.

16. Per the piping notes on M002, should we figure use and continuation of existing 6” CWS&R and 4” HWS&R, and assume that if they are found to be unsatisfactory, replacement would be additional to the contract? Or, should the cost of removal and replacement be included in our bid?

Answer:

Replacement will NOT be additional to the contract. Contractor should include cost of removal and replacement. If the existing piping is found to be in good condition, NARA will negotiate a credit for the new piping.

17. The below grade piping notes on M002 state that the 6” CWS&R and 4” HWS&R leave the Visitors Center from Chiller Room 016. Please confirm the HWS&R originate at Boiler Room 012.

Answer:

The existing 6" CWS&R and 4" HWS&R piping does indeed leave from the Chiller room, the pipes are visible. If the existing 4" HWS&R piping (from the Chiller Room) is not found to be satisfactory, then the proposed design routes from the Boiler room in order to avoid the corridor congestion from the Chiller Room to the Boiler Room. If the existing 4" HWS&R piping is found to be good for reuse, then a route to the Boiler Room from the exact location of the existing buried piping will be reviewed.

18. What work is associated with the note “repair exist concrete fireproofing” on drawing S105. Is this concrete encasement of the W Beams within the boxed area? Is the existing roof deck concrete? Do the columns need to be encased as well as the beams?

Answer: The work includes repair of the concrete roof and concrete encased W beams. Refer to attached sketch SK-S-001 for revised area of work.

Description: Repair 400 square feet of damaged concrete at the underside surface of the roof slab, 75 square feet of damaged concrete on the vertical faces of the concrete encased beams, and 25 square feet of damaged concrete at the underside of the concrete encased beams. Refer to Division 3 Section "Cast-in-Place Concrete” for acceptable polymer patching mortar products.

19. Specification section 15940 3.4D states "Operator Station Display: indicate the following on operator workstation display terminal:" It seems that the intent was to list a set of BACnet points to be communicated from the air handling unit controller to the main building DDC system. Please provide the list of BACnet points to be communicated between the air handling unit manufacturer's provided controller and the main building DDC system.

The following is a List of points to be communicated from each AHU to the main building DDC:

20. Is there a drawing M205 expected to be issued?

Answer: There will NOT be a M205 (roof plan in the sequence) issued.

21. Do existing beams at main, upper, and roof levels require SFRM?

If so, will the steel be ready to spray, or does it have to be scraped before applying SFRM?

Answer: No

22. Do the columns require SFRM? If so, can you provide me with the column type since there is no column schedule?

Answer: No

23. According to the details shown on page a702, the interior frame located at the sound Room is to be 7 ½’’ curtain wall. Is this the correct system desired?

This would be unnecessary due to the size of the frame and the fact that it is interior and all of the loads can be satisfied using a more economical system (material cost, fabrication cost, installation cost).

By switching to an all glass partition system (with the ¾’’ top and bottom rails as specified for the doors) there would be more continuity between the door and the sidelites or if more metal is desired to be shown, an interior storefront system of 1 ¾’’ x 4’’ or 1 ¾’’ x 4 ½’’ can be used at a more economical cost. Please advise.

Answer: Provide narrow stile aluminum-framed system at Sound Booth storefront system and entrance door #215A.

Materials as follows:

-Glazing : ¾- inch thick as indicated in Section 08450. SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1

-Aluminum: Standard extruded-aluminum framing members of thickness required and reinforced to support imposed loads.

Comply with all other related requirements included in specification Section 08450.

Approved Manufacturer’s for aluminum-framed system include the following:

EFCO Corporation

Kawneer North America

24. Spec. section 11160 (2.3B) regarding length of Laminated Tred Dock Bumpers states: “Horizontal Style – 10 inches high by length indicated on Drawings”. We find nothing showing the length of the Laminated Tred Bumpers on Drawings A202 or A602. Please identify the location and length of the laminated tred dock bumpers.

Answer: In Elevation 1/A202 add dock bumpers as follows: (1) 10” length bumper between the scissor lift opening and the access door and (1) 12” length bumper between the scissor lift opening and the stair opening.

25. Spec. section 11160 (2.5) states for the “Steel Finishes” to be “Hot-dip galvanized”. We contacted several of the manufacturers shown including Pentalift Equipment Corp. (shown as the Basis-of-Design) and were told that they do not recommend the Steel Finish to be hot-dip galvanized as this will jeopardize the integrity of the lift. Please confirm the Steel used in the manufacture of the lift does not need to be hot-dip galvanized.

The hot-dip galvanized requirement can be replaced with a factory applied primer and baked enamel finish.

26. Dormer windows:

a) Are the new windows to be made as operating Double/Single-hung or Fixed sash?

New windows are to be operating double hung.

b) If they are to be operable, what balance system is required. the existing system was "friction".
