About this file
This document contains a questions and answers (Q&A) file related to calibration requirements for two specific environmental testing chambers. The first item is an AES HD-508 Environmental Chamber (Asset 10564), with specifications of ±5°C / 5% RH and a calibration reference point at 160°F across nine temperature sensor locations. The clarification request and response confirm that the nine points are within the chamber (eight corners and one center), and that the digital units like the chart recorder, humidity gauge, and controller should be checked against actual chamber values.
The second item is a Singleton SCCH Custom_54211 Salt-Fog Chamber (Large), for which no manufacturer tolerance is defined. The calibration approach is a "Report of Actual" method, documenting measured values traceable to NIST. The Q&A confirms that this approach is acceptable, with the calibration focusing on temperature, relative humidity, and pressure gauges. Notably, salinity measurement is not required and will be tracked separately. The document provides technical clarification on the calibration scope and methodology for these two specific environmental testing instruments.

Question 1:
1. AES HD-508 Environmental Chamber (Asset 10564)
• Specification: ±5°C / 5% RH
• Reference Assumption: One temperature point at 160°F, with nine (9) temperature sensor locations.
• Additional Features: Chart recorder, humidity gauge, and controller.
Clarification Request:
Our team assumed the asterisk (*) notation refers to verification at a single temperature point (160°F) across nine locations. Could you please confirm whether this interpretation aligns with the intended calibration scope, or if additional points are required?
Answer 1:
1) AES HD-508. The 9 points are within the chamber, typically near the 8 corners and 1 in the center. 160°F / 95% RH is fine for the set point. The recorder, etc, are just the digital units that are part of the system, so checking them vs actual chamber values.
Question 2:
2. Singleton SCCH Custom_54211 Salt-Fog Chamber (Large)
• Note: Manufacturer specifications do not list a defined tolerance.
• Assumed Approach: Calibration to be performed as a “Report of Actual”, documenting actual measured values traceable to NIST.
Clarification Request:
We understand the double-asterisk (**) notation indicates the requirement to “provide actual values documented traceable to NIST,” which aligns with a standard “Report of Actual” calibration. Can you please confirm that this approach is acceptable for the three
(3) salt-fog chamber units under this asset listing?
Answer 2:
2) Salt fog chambers. Report of actual is acceptable. Temperature, %RH, and some pressure gauges are the things of interest. Salinity is not required, we track that separately.
