Hydraulic Contamination Awareness (5 hours):

Classroom – discussed the safety procedures of working with the hydraulic systems and identifying contaminated fluids as per the Hydraulic Manual N/A 01-1A-17. Discuss different procedures for decontamination systems on the aircraft and support equipment. By sampling, testing, and controlling contamination of hydraulic fluid used in aircraft system. Follow by written exam.

Aircraft Locking Devices (6 hours):

The course provides instruction for correct hardware selection. Classroom – cover different types of locking devices such as safety wires, cotter pins, safety cable, lock washers, self-locking nuts, shear wire, and rod ends, and proper torqueing procedures. Discuss the correct procedures on equipment, tools, manuals, and inspections of aircraft locking devices. Follow by written exam.

Practical Application - applying safety wire, single and double twist.

Aircraft Installation Removal Fastener Class(40hrs):

The purpose of this class is to prepare our FRCSW maintenance personnel in the maintenance and repair of navy and marine aviation equipment's. It provides artisan's concise and accurate information and aides in the selection and correct use of the aerospace hardware and their tooling.

The NAVAIR 01-1A-8 is the Structural Manual, it is used as the reference and is a general manual and not specific to any aircraft TMS.

The different aircraft fasteners from NAVAIR 01-1A-8 are as follows:

a) Solid rivets (Universal and Countersink)

b) Hi- loks fastener Ex; (HL-18).

c) HLT (teaque).

d) Cherry Max (Blind Rivets universal and countersink) oversize.

e) Jo-Bolts (visu-lok).

The F/A-18 A -D (A1-F18AC-SRM-200) structural manual as follows:

a) Hi lock (shear), counter sinks nominal and protruding head oversize.

b) Briles Rivets.

c) Eddie Bolts 1 and 2.

d) Taper Loks bolt.

e) Radial Lock

Class Objectives

1. Students will be able to identify the different kinds of aircraft fasteners.

2. Students will be able to install the different kinds of fasteners.

3. Check the High and Low limits of aircraft fasteners.

4. Using the different aircraft fastener gages. Lecture use of Micrometer.

5. The proper use of the tools to install all the fasteners.

6. The artisan's will be able to be tested in the removal of the fastener by drilling the heads.

7. A film for solid rivets.

8. A film from Eddie Bolt 2 Test plate will be graded at 80% passing.

Daily 5 day class schedules:

Day 1 - Class lectures and start cutting aluminum alloy 7075 T6 a IAW Project Blueprint.

Day 2 – Class lectures and start laying out holes IAW blue print, start step drilling all layout holes.

Day 3 - Class lectures, continue drilling, ream and counter sink if necessary Day 4 – Class lectures, start countersinking. Final size all holes, de burr edges and holes. Install all Fasteners.

Day 5 – Finish installing all fasteners. Grade the installation. Then start drilling heads of 10 different types of a/c fastener. Grade the removal.

FRCSW Hole Quality Class(24hrs):

1. Reference: LPS NI MATL-0466 B, “MACHINING OF QUALITY HOLES IN METALLIC AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES USING HAND HELD TOOLS.

2. All artisans that are to be qualified will be required to pass a formal written test with a passing grade of 80%. In addition, a practical test will be given that demonstrates the artisan is skilled and knowledgeable in hole quality.

Day 1- General Safety Practice the use of chemicals and personnel protective equipment. M.S.D.S. material data safety sheet.

- lecture on LPS NI MATL 0466 B.

· Discuss the different cutting tools ie; drill bits, reamers, and flex hone.

· Inspection of cutting tools step drilling procedures, important of drill motor speed and lubrication proper lubrication. Using Drill guides and stop drill.

· Formal test 80% passing.

Day 2 – Prepare the Aluminum plates for drilling, reaming, countersink using countersink gage. Install 2 Hi-lock and one torque screw fastener. Start the second steel plate do the same.

Day 3 – Drill five holes in titanium plate IAW instruction. Or one hole IAW the project plate instruction. Drill all the fasteners, inspect and measure the holes. Final grade on practical, the total of more than 3 holes or skin damage is a failure.

COLD WORK LPS NI 456(12hrs):

Cold Working of Fastener Holes in the aluminum, titanium and steel. The purpose of cold working is to improve the fatigue performance of U.S. Naval aircraft structures.

Day 1- All day lecture of LPS NI 456. Artisans will be able to understand cold work tools safety, the importance of proper selection of power pack, mandrels and sleeve. Use of go-no-go gages on drilled/reamed holes. Use of different adapters.
