About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) record for federal contract solicitation N6852026Q1023, detailing vendor inquiries and government responses regarding equipment specifications for an industrial heat treat oven system.
The oven must meet Class 1 temperature uniformity of +/-5°F and accommodate a maximum load weight of 15-20 lbs. The quench time requirement varies by metal and thickness, ranging from 5 to 15 seconds for .032 to .063 inch thick aluminum, with thinner materials requiring faster quench times to maintain uniformity. The furnace shall feature a basket/roller hearth design that rolls out and dips parts into quench solution, with material handling conducted either mechanically via the roller setup or by hand if the basket is removable. The government specifies electric as the preferred heating method, with gas not available as an alternative. Offerors must submit appropriate supporting documentation with their proposals, including compliance with FAR clauses 52.225-1 and 52.225-2 regarding Buy American requirements. The document does not specify response dates, award dates, pricing terms, or set-asides.

Vendor Questions Government Response
1. What is the temperature uniformity? Temperature uniformity for the oven needs to be at Class 1 +/-5F.
2. What is the time-to-quench requirement for this oven?
It varies by metal and thickness. The norm for what we heat treat would be 5 to 15 seconds for .032 to .063 thick aluminum.
Thinner (-.032) would require a faster quench to retain uniformity.
3. What is the load weight? The maximum load weight would be 15-20 lbs.
4. What is furnace hearth design? Is it same as quench which shows a roller hearth? The Hearth design is a basket/roller design that would roll out and dip the parts in the required solution as designated.
5. How is material handling of loading and unloading of furnace done (forklift, charge car, crane, other?) The Material would be unloaded and dipped via the mechanical Hearth roller set up or by hand if the basket is not used.
6. What is preferred heating method (gas or electric?) Electric is the preferred method. Gas is not available.
7 .Which documents other than the proposal need to be submitted in the offer, i.e. buy American etc..
The offeror is responsible for providing the appropriate documents in response to the RFQ. However, the RFQ will be revised to include FAR clauses 52.225-1 & 52.225-2.
8. What is the transfer time to quench? See response number 2
