STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
Underwater Training Range (UTR) Underwater Communications Subsystem (UCS) Hardware Design, Procurement, Production PR No. 1301041505
1.0 BACKGROUND
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWDIVNPT) Code 70 will deliver an Underwater Communications System (UCS) for the Undersea Warfare Training Range (USWTR) and AUTEC Sensor Replacement Program (ASRP) recapitalization programs. An Underwater Training Range (UTR) is comprised of an In-Water Subsystem (IWS) and a Display, Processing, and Control Subsystem (DPCS), each with multiple subsystems. The IWS consists of the Ocean Sensor Subsystem (OSS), the Sea-Shore Interface (SSI), and the Shore Electronics Subsystem (SES). The SES contains electronics for transmission, reception, and monitoring of acoustic signals from the OSS and sends raw acoustic data to the DPCS. The DPCS provides the infrastructure to enable operators to process the acoustic sensor output, control and debrief training exercises, and to communicate via submarine acoustic transmission. The subsystems implementing these functions include the Underwater Communications Subsystem (UCS).
The purpose of the UCS is to communicate with subsurface vehicles using acoustic signals. The UCS is comprised of various electronic and computer components that fit in a standard electronic equipment rack. The rack includes a Primary and Secondary UCS, with some components shared between the two systems. The UCS can operate in both analog and digital mode, although the default usage mode is digital.
