SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION A - SOLICITATION/CONTRACT FORM

The following have been modified:

GENERAL INFORMATION SITE VISIT

Q&A

Q1: Is there a plumbing as-built drawing available for this portion of the building or can NAVFAC confirm the depth of the existing sewer line from the point where the work begins to where it ends? From the drawings, it appears excavation to a maximum depth of 6’6” will be required. This will help us determine the needs for trench protection and/or any shoring required for any undermined slab.

A1: The depth estimated to be at 6’6”. However, contractor shall provide excavation to a depth of 7’-8’, as necessary to complete repair.

Q2: Is there a structural as-built drawing available for this portion of the building? There is a row of columns along the south corridor wall, one or two of which are in the area of the work. As these footings are within the building’s structural footprint, there is a chance they only 18” or 24” below grade. They would, therefore, potentially be undermined during excavation to perform the work.

A2: Shoring shall be provided to prevent undermining existing column footings.

Q3: Is a covered, heated enclosure still required around the area where the exterior work is being performed, or can chain link fencing with fabric walls and a weather/pest-protective barrier at the personnel door be substituted, as this work will be performed during warmer months?

A3: The heated enclosure can be substituted for chain link fencing with fabric walls and a weather/pest-protective barrier at the personnel door. When workers are not on site, a temporary stop must be in place to prevent the door from swinging open due to wind (the electric strike will be removed by NUWC Security to allow direct access to the site by the contractor).

Q4: Please confirm there is no requirement to replace the recessed floor mat being removed and disposed of at the personnel door.

A4: There is no requirement to replace the recessed floor mat.

Q5: While the slab is curing 28 days to be suitable for placement of the epoxy floor, should we plan on leaving all temporary barriers/provisions in place, or should the corridor and personnel door be opened for limited access, such as use as an emergency egress only?

A5: The corridor and personnel door should be opened for limited access.

Q6: What material is proposed under the exterior slab?

A6: Select backfill as described on drawings 19-041A, sheet 1.

Q7: Will a roof design be provided for the temporary heated enclosure?

A7: No.

Q8: How will Room 207 be accessed?

A8: There is a double door to the north. Refer to the key plan on drawings 19-041A, sheet 1.

Q9: Can a photo of the hallway floor (to be demolished during construction) be provided? To show condition, cove base, etc.

A9: No.

Q10: How many sprinkler heads are in the work area that need to be covered?

A10: Five Q11: How many smoke detectors/alarms are in the work area that need to be covered?

A11: Four Q12: How many air/heat vents are in the work area that need to be covered?

A12: One

N6660420Q0811

Q13: How many doors in the hallway need to be covered and/or sealed?

A13: Three Q14:Can excavatable flowable fill concrete be used instead of select backfill for the sewer trench inside the building?

A14: Yes. Use material conforming to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Section 603 Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM), Table 1 for excavatable fill.
