N66604-16-Q-2462 Question/Answer Question:
I would like to learn additional details about the solicitation N66604-16-Q-2462 for a Tracking Antenna Pedestal. MIL-SAT has COTS tracking antennas that meet harsh maritime requirements. These antennas accomplish this by being housed in a radome. These systems are currently providing the earth station tracking capability to the United States SARSAT network and many more. Would your customer accept a solution that includes a radome?
Answer:
The solution that we are looking for is highly mobile and tripod mounted. The mission will require the unit to be moved around to different locations multiple times in a day. The unit is not attended to be permanently mounted to any location or exposed to extreme weather conditions. A solution which incorporates a radome would likely not meet our portability requirements. We are looking for a solution closer to a UAV controller vs. a Satellite tracker.
