About this file

This document contains Questions & Answers for solicitation N6471025Q4501 across three amendments, focusing on replacement bearings for naval vessel propulsion drive shafts. The Q&A reveals that the bearings are commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components for U.S. Government vessels, specifically non-expansion (GR) bearings. Key clarifications include confirmation that the items are not safety-critical, do not violate Motion's sales policy, and would not cause vessel operational failure since an alternate drive system can be used if the product fails. The procurement appears to involve 7 total bearing units for naval ship propulsion systems, with the vessels explicitly noted as not designed for military operations.

Questions & Answers– N6471025Q4501 AMD 3

1. For the products in the Solicitation, we see that they will be used on the naval ship in the propulsion drive shafts. As a distributor of industrial products, our risk management policies require us to confirm with a customer that there is a backup in place in the event of the failure of the products. In other words, if the product were to fail, would it lead to bodily injury or property damage? Does this product have to do with the critical operation of a vessel.

Answer: If the vendor's product fails the vessel can operate on an alternate drive system, to return to "safe harbor."
