The purpose of this amendment is to incorporate the following:

Paragraph

(AQ)

6 10/08/19 05 59 20 Spec section invokes bridge code (D1.5) as the code for construction.

The base material is a nickel-based alloy, use of the AWS stainless welding code would be more applicable to this (but will still require some restricted use).

Why isn't AWS D1.6 being invoked?

Bid per Amendment 0002

7 10/08/19 05 59 20 If it is agreed that D1.6 is more suitable for the work, may all references thereto be changed so that qualification, base metal preparation, workmanship, etc., are in accordance with it?

Bid per Amendment 0002

8 10/08/19 05 59 20 The base material of the project

(ASTM B127,

Monel 400) is not listed in D1.5 and so cannot be welded in accordance with it.

As an example;

(2.1.4.4.1) calls for maintaining low moisture of low hydrogen electrodes with use of an oven at the job site, however the electrodes for the applicable material are neither designated low hydrogen nor do they require storage in an oven once a manufacturer's sealed container has been opened.

Bid per Amendment 0002

9 10/08/19 05 59 20 The spec (at 2.1.4.4.2) calls for preheating IAW D1.5 and there is no preheating guidance in D1.5 for this material. Please advise.

Bid per Amendment 0002

10 10/08/19 05 59 20 The spec (at 2.1.4.5.4) provides requirements for removal of steel weld backing. Steel weld backing will not be used to weld Monel 400 to itself.

Please clarify.

Bid per Amendment 0002

2. REVISIONS TO RFP:

Delete Section 05 59 20 and replace with Section “05 59 20, Caisson Seat Armor Plating, dated 10 OCT 2019. The revised section accompanies this amendment; general changes to the section have been highlighted in yellow.
