1 SS701
The repair quantity chart indicates 0.82 CU FT of epoxy for each seat repair. Is this
0.82 CU FT for each
joint location?
The 0.82 cubic foot of epoxy is for each joint repair, see also the bid schedule, Section 00 22 13.00
20, CLIN 0001AC
From the date of award until demobilization on September 15, 2020, how many calendar days for construction will the contractor be given for the topside demolition and new concrete work?
Bid per RFP
3 SS103 40 05 13 2.3.1.1
Drawing SS103 indicates 10" SCH'D 80 type 316L SS pipe and the spec section for process piping systems indicates schedule 10S. Please clarify.
Schedule 80, Bid per Amendment 0001
4 SS205
Drawing SS205 states to provide 3/4" Monel 400 Nickel Copper clad plate to extend the caisson seat armor plates. Due to the Monel 400 plate not being commercially available, 1/2" 316 SS plates with 316 SS studs were successfully installed for a similar caisson seat armor plate extension on the "Dry Dock #3 Repair Safety Wall/Guardrails" project in 2014. Due to disimmilar metals, a thin bond break (rubber or teflon) is installed between the existing nickel copper plate and the 316 SS plate. Is the 316 SS plate with a bond breaker an acceptable alternative to the stated requirements on Dry Dock 2?
Yes, but thickness must match existing.
Bid per Amendment
5 SS701
Notes 3 and 4 on drawing SS701 state to inject epoxy between armor plate segments and within cracked and spalled concrete near edges of armor plates.
No epoxy material specification was found. Please provide information on the type of epoxy to be used for injection repairs.

2. REVISIONS TO RFP
CONTINUATION SHEET
SECTION 05 59 20 CAISSON SEAT ARMOR PLATING
Globally in this section replace AWS D1.5/D1.5M with AWS D1.6/D1.6M
1.3 SUBMITTALS
Under SD-03 Product Data add the following:
“Epoxy Injection Grout; G”
2.1.1 Structural Fabrications
Replace paragraph 2.1.1 with the following:
“2.1.1 Structural Fabrications
ASTM A240 Alloy 316L (UNS S31603) stainless steel material must be straight before being laid off or worked.
Perform straightening by methods that will not impair the metal. Material will be rejected for sharp kinks or bends.
Material with welds will not be accepted except where welding is definitely specified, indicated or otherwise approved. Use approved dies, press brakes or bending rolls to make bends. Take precautions to avoid overheating the metal where heating is required and allow it to cool in a manner that will not impair the original properties of the metal. Obtain approval prior to flame cutting material, other than structural steel, indicated on detail drawings.
Accurately shear material and neatly finish all portions of the work. Provide square and true corners unless otherwise shown. Fillet re-entrant cuts to a minimum radius of 1 inch. Provide finished members free of twists, bends and open joints.”
2.1.1.2 Nickel-Copper Fabrication
Replace paragraph 2.1.1.2 with the following:
“2.1.1.2 Stainless Steel Fabrication
Stainless Steel alloy may be cut by mechanically guided or hand-guided torches, provided an accurate profile with a surface that is smooth and free from cracks and notches is obtained. Prepare surfaces and edges in accordance with AWS D1.6/D1.6M, Workmanship Clause. Hand-guided cuts must be chipped, ground or machined to sound metal.”
At the end of Part 2 add the following:
“2.3 EPOXY
2.3.1 Epoxy Injection Grout
A low viscosity epoxy resin system pumped under pressure into cracks. The epoxy adhesive must be a two component, 100 percent solids, moisture insensitive structural epoxy suitable for pressure injection or hand application. The manufacturer shall offer technical services and provide a representative at the jobsite for product training prior to product installation upon 14 days advance notice.
The epoxy adhesive shall meet all the following typical performance criteria when cured at 73 degrees F:
ASTM C881, Types I, II, IV and V, Grade 3, Classes B & C Property Test Method Criteria
Gel Time ASTM C881/C881M 40 Minutes
Flexural Strength ASTM D790 5,500 psi
Shear Strength ASTM D732 3,500 psi
Bond Strength, 2 days ASTM C882/C882M 2,200 psi
Bond Strength, 14 days ASTM C882/C882M 4,600 psi
Compressive Strength ASTM D695 10,000 psi
Compressive Modulus ASTM D695 280,000 psi
Water Absorption ASTM D570 0.10 percent
3.1.2 Alignment and Setting
Replace Paragraph 3.1.2 with the following:
“3.1.2 Alignment and Setting
Each structural unit attached to structures fabricated according to this specification must be accurately aligned by the use of Type 316 Stainless Steel shims or other approved methods so that no distortion of any member occurs before it is fastened in place. The alignment of all parts with respect to each other must be true within the respective tolerances required. Shims may remain with the final installation. Electrically insulate Stainless from Monel Armor Plating with 1/16-inch min thick UHMW-PE or Contracting Officer approved method of electrical isolation of dissimilar metals. “
At the End of Part 3.1 add the following:
“3.1.3 Epoxy Injection Grout Prepare surface for grouting with high pressure water blasting or other suitable methods, with the intent to remove all marine growth and voids from joints between the armor plates. Do not install epoxy injection grout if the temperature is not within the range of application temperatures recommended by the manufacturer of the product.
Apply a surface seal over all exterior faces of the joint that can be reached to contain the injection adhesive in the crack. Install the injection entry and venting ports using flush mounted or drilled fittings per manufacturers instructions. Space ports in accordance with manufacturers instructions, verify spacing with an above water crack, justifying complete application to Contracting Officer by sounding area with a 22-ounce hammer. Install product at manufacturers recommended pressure. For horizontal cracks apply injection by proceeding from one end of the crack (joint) to the other until the void is fully sealed. Remove ports and remove the surface seal by grinding or other acceptable means after the injected epoxy has cured.”
SECTION 40 05 13 PROCESS PIPING
2.3.1.1 Stainless Steel Pipe
Delete this paragraph in its entirety and replace with the following:
“2.3.1.1 Stainless Steel Pipe
Stainless steel pipe intended for general corrosive service shall meet the requirements of ASTM A312/A312M, seamless, Grade TP316L , Schedule 80 with dimensions conforming to ASME B36.19M.”
