AMENDMENT 0003
Question 1. Please provide typical widths of existing roads. Plans provide widths only for new pavement.
Answer 1. Typical width of existing pavement is 25 feet.
Question 2. Please advise regarding traffic status on roads during construction. Will roads be shut down and traffic detoured to an alternate route, or will one side of the road be closed during construction, etc. (Specifications state road will be kept open or an approved bypass will be used). Is there a detour route that will serve as an approved bypass?
Anwer 2. Roads shall be kept open to maximum extent possible during peak travel hours (M-F 0600-0800 and 1530-1730). Lane closures are allowed for shoulder widening and milling/overlay work. Short term total road closures are allowed for culvert replacements with proper notice (see amendment 0001, answer 3).
Question 3. Can we shut the road down at culvert locations for demolition and installation?
Answer 3. Yes, (see amendment 0001, answer 3).
Question 4. Do you know the size of the water and sewer lines, or the material of these lines on Sneads Ferry road? (C900, ductile iron etc.)
Answer 4. There are 3 water lines along Sneads Ferry Rd., 4” C900, 12” C900 and 30” Ductile Iron. There are 2 sewer force mains along Sneads Ferry Rd. Both are 16” C900.
Question 5. Detail “A” on sheet C-40 shows Silt Fence requirements for each side of the road within the detail. The plan sheet does not show Silt Fence requirements along the road at these station numbers. Can you provide drawings indicating locations of silt fence install?
Answer 5. Plans show required locations of silt fence.
Question 6. Can you provide a specification for silt fencing?
Answer 6. See Detail A, Sheet C-51.
Question 7. Detail “A” – each cross section refers to Detail “B”, which requires 2” milling. Will all asphalt require 2” milling?
Answer 7. Yes.
Question 8. Sneads Ferry Road Storm Drain Replacement at Station 91+60 shows finish road elevation as 5.76 with an invert elevation of 2.53 which is 3.53 difference. This location requires a 48” RCP with a wall thickness of 0.33. The top of pipe elevation will be 6.86 when installed at inv. Elevation 2.53. Is detail “A” on sheet C- 44 as correct?
Answer 8. The invert is -2.53 not +2.53.
Question 9. Sneads Ferry Road Storm Drain Replacement at Station 137+00 shows finish road elevation as 5.72 with an invert elevation of 1.44 which is 3.53 difference. This location requires a 48” RCP with a wall thickness of 0.33. The top of pipe elevation will be 5.77 when installed at inv. Elevation 1.44. Is detail “A” on sheet C- 45 as correct?
Answer 9. The invert is -1.44 not +1.44.
Question 10. Drawings refer to sheets C -50 and C – 51. These drawing are not included within the drawings provided. Is this a typo?
Answer 10. C-50, C-51 and C-52 should be included. See attached drawings.
Question 11. Will we have a designated laydown area?
Answer 11. Yes, laydown areas will be provided to the contractor. Final locations will be determined when contractor defines their requirements.
Question 12. Typical Section B on plan sheet C-46 indicates "New 10" Thick ABC Stone" as part of the pavement structure for the pavement widening. For safety concerns and constructability of the widening would it be acceptable to use 6" Asphalt Concrete Base Course B25.0C instead of the 10" ABC Stone? This will allow the placement of the 2" lift of ACIC flush with the milled surface and eliminating any unsafe drop off that will be created by placing and compacting the ABC Stone in two lifts.
Answer 12. Yes, this is acceptable.
Question 13. Based on Typical Section B on plan sheet C-46 and the constructability of the project the traveling public will have to ride on the milled surface until the widening is complete and final 2" lift of surface course has been installed. Will the existing milled surface be able to withstand the volume of traffic without failure?
Answer 13. Yes
Question 14. Section 01 14 00 Work Restrictions paragraph 1.2.2 working hours indicates that the regular working hours shall consist of eight and one-half hour period as determined by the Contracting Officer. Are there any time restrictions associated with this project?

Answer 15. See Detail D, Sheet C-41.
Question 16. On plan sheet C-31 B Enlarged Site Plan – Sneads Ferry Road beginning at Sta 89+00 to Sta 72+83 there is no indication for the final nominal width of the asphalt pavement.
Would you provide nominal width of the asphalt pavement required for this section of the Sneads Ferry Road.
Answer 16. This is shown - See Sheet C-32.
Question 17. The specs for the above project are calling for water tight testing to be done on the RCP pipe culverts. Since there will be flares on each end of the pipe and they are not going to be used to store water, can this testing requirement be waived?
Answer 17. Yes.
Question 18. Can the water lines be isolated without interruption to a facility?
Answer 18. Please clarify this question. We will work outages as necessary but expect utilities to remain uninterrupted to the maximum extent possible.
Question 19. There appear to be 2 force mains and 1 water line at 91+60 Sneads Ferry Road that could be in conflict. Can you confirm that they are intended to be below the new pipe?
Answer 19. Confirmed, at Sneads Ferry Rd 91+60 utilities are below the pipes per our best available data. Contractor shall confirm all utility locations before beginning work.
