About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding oil system flushing services on a Los Angeles-class submarine. The Navy will provide 480V 3-phase 100amp power and connections to the piping system will be -16 JIC/1 inch. Flushing will be conducted in accordance with SUBMEPP TP 553-5542 to achieve a NAS Class 5 cleanliness level with less than 0.05% water content. The contractor will flush approximately 40 55-gallon drums of piping as well as supply 1,000 gallons of flushing oil and final fill oil. Flushing will occur at pier side at pressures up to 3,600 psi and will flow at a minimum of 30 gallons per minute. No hydrostatic testing will be conducted.

2) What is the diameter of the piping that will be flushed on the external hydraulics? (This will be used to determine the required flow rate for flushing) or if there is already a NAVAL required flow rate can you provide that? ¼” to 2-1/2” IPS

3) SOW states that KTR is to provide flushing oil and 1000 gallons of Final Fill oil. Do you know how many gallons of oil is needed to fill the entire external hydraulic piping system that will be in the flushing circuit? ~ 300 Gallons.

4) Is the BOAT in the dry dock for this flushing evolution? The Ship will be pier side flushing will occur over water.

5) Does the Shipyard know the size and type of connections the KTR equipment will need to connect too? The standard size of connection will be -16 JIC / 1 Inch

6) What is the PASS/FAIL criteria for completion of the hydraulic flushing phase? NAS Class 5 with less than or equal to .05% water content

7) Is there a visual flush screen or filter bag inspection? Not Required for this flush procedure

8) # At what pressure will the flushing be completed at? Max pressure is 3600 psi Nominal is 1500 psi

9) What is the diameter and length of the piping/any drums to be flushed. Need flush approximately 40 55gal drums, Any portable piping will be flushed in SD-Det shop

10) What are the flow rates to be attained? 30 Gallons per minute (30GPM)

11) can we get a copy of the flushing procedure to be used to assure the right flushing equipment is used onsite – The flush is conducted in accordance with SUBMEPP TP 553-5542. Please contact the POC on this solicitation for a copy.

12) What idos the average time for lab testing of the oil? Approximately 4 hours

17) Will we be cleaning separated pipes and fittings at the DS Shop location- what is the length and diameters? No

18) How many flush loops are there. Sail flush has approx.12 flushing loops. Header flush as of now has approx. 27 flushing loops. 95% of the flushing loops are forward and reverse flushes.

19) Will there be lab access at night for samples to be run? Yes

20) Who will complete the hydrostatic test inside of the vessel? No hydrostatic test only mechanical joint testing

21) 10. What is the purpose of the cleaning project? Is this new construction or existing piping being cleaned
