In order to do this, the contractor shall install the new thermal insulation on the floor, and provided with wooden paths to walk under the roof without stepping over the thermal insulation. Once the thermal insulation is installed it shall be covered with vapor barrier provided by the manufacturer of the thermal insulation. The existing wood structure and the new wood shall be treated against insect and fire before applying the thermal insulation (approximately 20 cm thickness).

- Design internal layout of rooms to maximize the use of available space. For example, if we are blocking a door in Patient Ward#10, and the wall is 80 cm thick. The contractor shall block the wall with think masonry wall of 20 cm and use the remaining 60 cm to build a new recessed closet. Maximization of available space is the responsibility of the contractor’s architect.
Existing hallway to be converted into 6 different rooms and a section of a new hallway
Structural modifications:
The new required layout includes providing new openings on existing load bearing walls. These openings shall be done as indicated and in the physical presence of the architect hired by the contractor to prepare the design for this new required layout. Making openings in load bearing walls is technically possible, but shall be done with extreme care, by specialized workers. Minimum of 2 structural lintels (pre-cast concrete beams or structural steel) shall be provided on all openings on load bearing walls.
Existing internal architectural ornaments:
This is a design-build contract, and therefore the contractor shall hire the services of a licensed and specialized architect to provide the proposed design for the internal renovations of the facility. It is the intent of the project to provide modern internal finishes, while maintaining to the maximum extent possible the original ornamental elements of the building. For example, the two columns in the Reception Area shall be restored and not removed or modified. The height of the new suspended ceiling shall be as low as possible to lower the energy consumption of the facility, but at the same time, shall be as high as possible to expose the original ornaments of the building or to match the height of the existing windows.
2.4 INTERNAL RENOVATIONS
As described in the previous paragraph, the existing section of the hospital currently used for the patient wards will be completely remodeled. The contractor shall hire the services of a licensed architect to provide a complete design package for the new required layout with the finished required herein.
Some element of work will be common for all renovated internal areas:
2.4.1 Demolitions

This includes electrical installations, plumbing installations, communications, flooring, wall plaster, drop ceiling (ornamental), ceiling plaster, heating systems, stoves, and everything necessary to perform the works included into this contract.
2.4.2 Electrical Installation
Provide a new electrical installation in strict compliance with Ukrainian standards and regulations, and with the particular additional technical requirements of the electrical utility company, for the areas under the scope of work of this contract.
In addition to the new electrical installations the contractor is required to move one main electrical panel located in a wall to be removed in order to provide the access door to the new patient ward hallway from the surgical area.
The contractor shall connect a new electrical circuit to the main electrical panel of the hospital building. This new circuit shall be provided with the necessary electrical protections. This new electrical circuit shall supply electrical power to a new electrical panel to be located recessed on a wall in the reception area. From this new electrical panel, the contractor shall provide electric power to all the renovated areas under this contract.
The contractor is responsible to study and analyze the existing electrical installation of the hospital to verify that all areas of the hospital, which are currently supplied with electrical power, and are not under the scope of work of the internal renovations of this contract, shall continue with electrical power after the renovations are completed. For example: if a room adjacent to the areas to be renovated is supplied from an electrical circuit from the renovated areas, the contractor shall provide a new power supply to this room, so that when the electrical installation in the renovated areas are removed, this room continues to have electric power.
All electrical installations shall be recessed on the wall and ceilings, so that no electrical cable or conduit is visible. This includes conduits, junction boxes, switches, lighting fixtures, electric panels, and all electrical installations within the renovated areas.
All electrical equipment to be used to be CE certified. All circuits to be provided with differential protection of 30 mA.
Typical minimum lighting levels required for different areas
Lighting: Provide rapid start fluorescent and LED technology lighting for different areas, as required and detailed in this document. Provide the minimum illumination levels required by Ukrainian regulations for the intended use of each room. For the final acceptance of the facility, the contractor shall provide a lighting meter (lux meter) to measure the actual illumination level of each room in comparison with the levels required by Ukrainian regulations. In case the Ukrainian regulation does not include these requirements, international standards shall be utilized.
All electrical circuits to be installed under conduit. Conduits to be recessed within the floors, walls and ceiling so that they are not exposed to the view. Direct installation of cables under the plaster without conduits IS NOT AUTHORIZED.
Typical required electrical panel to be recessed on the walls
All electrical mechanisms to be recessed in the new walls. Provide wide mechanisms as shown. Provide telephone plugs as the one shown on the middle left of the picture.
Typical conduit recessed on the wall
Electric panel to be moved. The contractor shall provide a 2.6 meter wide opening on this wall and provide a hospital rated door.
Typical conduit to be recessed on the walls
2.4.3 Floors
All floors in the renovated areas shall be perfectly leveled and provided with the same finished elevation, except in the bathrooms where they shall be sloped towards the new floor drains.
The contractor shall completely remove all existing flooring surfaces and provide new non-glazed porcelain ceramic tiles. The contractor shall install, diagonally with respect to the walls, new porcelain stoneware tiles of large size/format. Minimum standard acceptable sizes would be 90x90, 45x90, 30x90, 60x60, 40x40 or 48x48 cm. Anything less than 0.16 m² per tile is not authorized
The name “porcelain stoneware” indicates a non-glazed, dry-pressed, highly compact, ceramic product with high quality, technical specifications (these tiles are highly flex, graze, scratch, weather and chemical agent resistant) and have a very low porosity. Unglazed porcelain ceramic tiles are hard, dense ceramic tiles; of homogeneous composition throughout, deriving its color and texture from the materials of which the body is made and from the method of manufacture. Unglazed porcelain tiles are very tough and they are extremely vitreous and dense. They are a through-color product and recommended for very heavy traffic areas like hallways they may wear, but will retain their original color. Unglazed porcelain tiles are available in various finishes, from matte to high gloss, and some have textured finishes, made to imitate natural stone.
The minimum technical features of the porcelain stoneware are:
- Water absortion (ISO 10545-3) < 0.1%
- Deep abrasion for non glazed tiles (EN – ISO 10545-6): 102 mm³, K=3
- Surface Scratch according to Mohn: 4
- Slippery coefficient (DIN 51130): R9
- Tiles shall be classified as Class 5 or 4 according to the PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute rating).
Class 4: Moderate to heavy traffic. High foot traffic areas where abrasive or outside dirt could be tracked (residential entry, kitchen, balcony, and countertop). Class 5: Heavy traffic. Ceramic tile suggested for residential, commercial and institutional floor subjected to heavy traffic
For the bathrooms, in order to provide the necessary slopes, it will be very challenging to use such large tiles. For that reason, it is authorized to use smaller tiles of the same model as the larger tiles required for the rest of the areas. Many manufacturers produce the same tiles in different models.
The contractor shall choose one model which is produced in large and smaller formats.
