THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE HOT UNTIL TESTED OTHERWISE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ELECTRICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DEAD PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.

6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS: None additional.

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED

7.1 Preservation shall include the entire house structure including all Vertical ladders, inclined ladders/stairs, ladder grating, stair wells, vestabules, handrails, platform/walkway structures, lifeboat platforms, decking, overhead, overhang, grating, brackets, supports, foundations, piping, hangers, louvers, screens, angle iron, channel iron, flat bar, and other appurtenances/attachments, etc.

7.2 Contractor shall remove and re-install all ladders/stairs, handrails, platform/walkway structures, decking, grating, brackets, supports, foundations, piping, louvers, screens, and other appurtenances/attachments to clean and prepare all areas that have surface degradation and require surface preparation and coating/painting.

7.3 Contractor shall provide all scaffolding, crane services, bucket lifts, etc. necessary to perform the following work.

7.4 The Contractor shall erect scaffolding from the Main Deck on the Port and Starboard side, and the main deck and 02 Level forward of the house, where necessary, to the top of the 08 Level.

7.5.2 Prior to the start of productive work, protective coverings shall be inspected and approved by the MSC Port Engineer.

7.6 Prior to water jetting, hull markings shall be marked recorded and photographed for reference. The entire house shall be water washed with fresh water using 2,500 to 3,000 PSIG to remove all salt water contamination. Upon completion of water washing a Chloride test shall be performed on a sample area per the PPG Paint Representatives instructions.

7.7 The maximum allowable contamination concentrations shall be less than 10 ug/cm2 of chloride contaminants as determined by field or laboratory analysis using reliable, reproducible test equipment.

7.8 If contamination is found, additional tests shall be made to determine the extent of contamination and to prove the success of remediation.

7.9 Contractor shall mechanically clean or abrasive blast all areas of surface degradation to a SSPC SP11 profile, using Reference 2.3 as guidance.

7.10 Surface areas where no evidence of corrosion exist

abrade vertical flat bulkhead surfaces by light sanding and treat surfaces with Prep 88 surface cleaner or substitute approved by the MSC Paint Rep.

7.11 The surfaces shall be inspected and approved by the PPG Paint Representative and the MSCREP prior to the application of each coat of primer or paint.

7.12 Coating Application

7.12.1 No coating shall be applied until the PPG Paint Representative and MSCREP have approved the coating curing time and surface preparation.

7.12.2 All coatings shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. This includes temperature, humidity, and cure time limitations.

7.12.3 Primer: Apply the following primer to power tool cleaned surfaces.

a.One (1) coat of Amercoat 240, (Red Oxide) at 5-6 mils DFT.
b.One (1) coat of Amercoat 240 (Haze Gray) at 5-6 mils DFT.
c.Grating, screens, and ladders shall have two full coats primer and topcoat.

7.12.4 Stripe coats shall be applied to all weldments, crevices, corners, edge treads, pitted surfaces, and other areas not conducive to proper coverage. Stripe coats shall extend a minimum of 1” from each edge of the area being stripe coated.

a. One (1) stripe coat “using a brush” of Amercoat 240 (Red Oxide), at 5-6 mils DFT.

b. Use Amercoat T10 solvent only.

7.12.5 Topcoat: Apply one (1) full coat of Amershield (Haze Gray), 3-4 mils DFT once all surfaces have been prepared.

a. Use Amercoat 65 solvent only.
