WI 501 PAINT MIXING ROOM VENT MODS – Paragraph 2.1
8. Our vendor has an issue with the Electric Duct Heaters called out for Work Item 501 see as follows:
In Work Item 501 Reference 2.1.1 Drawing MSC DWG 514-8495679 Rev B, Paint Mixing Room Ventilation MODS- HVAC Modification, Section 7.3.3 c. referencing installation of heater.
Reference 2.1.1 Drawing MSC DWG 514-8495679 Rev B, Paint Mixing Room Ventilation MODS- HVAC Modification, Sheet 3 Bill of Materials (BOM) calls out BOM# 7 Qty (1) Heater, Duct Type, Electric, Size 28EH, TY H, 30” x 9 ¼”, 25.5kw, 440v 3PH, Series EP2, Indeeco EH-28H, Explosion Proof. However, please see the below note explaining why Indeeco NO QUOTED the heater. They feel that there is an error in the selection more than likely it is the KW rating for the size of the room.
It appears that someone is confused about what they are asking for. Our vendor has the following questions/comments.
· Mil-Spec heaters size 28EH, Type H are standard HVAC duct type heaters with only a manual reset thermal cutout for control. The heaters are wired to a remote control panel supplied by others (unfortunately) and the remote thermostats is tied into the control circuit in the remote control panel.
· A standard TFZ-28H duct heater per MIL-PRF-22594/MIL-H-22594 is rated at 27.3 kW
· The Mil-Spec heaters are in no way considered Explosion-Proof, not even to EP2 criteria.
We solicited some help from our vendor and using the physical size of a 28H Mil-Duct Heater (30” x 9.25”) and approximately 1100 FPM they can only supply about 4.0 kW in EP2 design. In order to get to about 25 kW within EP2 guidelines they would need approximately 3500 CFM and an open area duct size in the range of 30” x 24”.
Please provide guidance?
ANSWER: Provide statement concerning issue in solicitation. Do not quote heater in proposal. Once final characteristics are known government to issue guidance.
