About this file
This is a Questions & Answers document for federal contract solicitation N0060426Q4077 addressing technical specifications for a Coriolis meter procurement.
The document clarifies a single technical question regarding flow measurement equipment. A potential contractor inquired whether a two-meter parallel configuration using two 8-inch Coriolis meters could meet the solicitation requirements as an alternative to a single meter solution. The proposed parallel configuration would achieve the required 5,600 GPM maximum flow rate, as a single 8-inch meter can only accommodate approximately 3,700 GPM. The contractor's proposed solution would include two sensors and transmitters while meeting all other specified characteristics, including normal flow range of 1,800–3,600 GPM, bidirectional flow measurement, mass-flow and density accuracy, pressure drop limits, custody-transfer approval, Class I Division 2 Group D certification, and required transmitter displays, outputs, and communications capabilities. The government's response definitively states that the requirement is strictly limited to a single Coriolis meter with one associated transmitter, rejecting the two-meter parallel configuration as an acceptable alternative.

N0060426Q4077 Questions & Answers
Question #1
One qualified Coriolis meter manufacturer has advised that its 8-inch custody-transfer meter can accommodate a maximum flow rate of approximately 3,700 GPM. To achieve the required maximum flow rate of 5,600 GPM, the manufacturer recommends installing two 8-inch Coriolis meters in parallel, with the combined flow measured and totalized as one complete system.
Could you confirm whether a properly engineered two-meter parallel configuration would be acceptable, provided that the complete system meets all other salient characteristics, including:
• Normal flow range of 1,800–3,600 GPM
• Combined maximum flow capacity of at least 5,600 GPM
• Bidirectional flow measurement
• Required mass-flow and density accuracy
• Maximum allowable pressure drop
• Custody-transfer approval
• Class I, Division 2, Group D certification
• Required transmitter displays, outputs and communications
• Combined system totalization and documentation
The proposed solution would include two sensors and associated transmitters rather than the single sensor-and-transmitter arrangement currently listed.
Please advise whether this configuration may be offered as an acceptable meeting-or-exceeding solution, or whether the requirement is strictly limited to one 8-inch sensor and one transmitter.
Answer #1
The requirement is for a single Coriolis meter, and the one associated transmitter.
