About this file

This file is a Questions and Answers document from a federal contract opportunity (N0025327Q0001).

The document addresses battery disassembly and silver-bearing material preparation procedures prior to refinery shipment. According to the answer provided, the government will disassemble batteries and separate materials into two categories before shipment: high-yield silver-bearing material and low-yield silver-bearing material. The low-yield category includes components such as terminals, zinc plates, and cellophane that contain smaller amounts of silver. All plastic barrels shipped to the refinery will be clearly labeled to identify the applicable material category. Small batteries, such as AA-sized batteries, represent the only exception to this disassembly requirement, as they are too small to be efficiently disassembled and separated.

Answer 1: Prior to shipment to the refinery, the government will disassemble the batteries and separate the materials into two categories: high-yield silver-bearing material and low-yield silver-bearing material. The low-yield category typically includes components such as terminals, zinc plates, and cellophane, which contain smaller amounts of silver. All plastic barrels shipped to the refinery will be clearly labeled to identify the applicable category.

The only exception will be small batteries, such as AA-sized batteries, which are too small to be efficiently disassembled and separated.
