Pre-Bid site visit, Hampton Roads Naval Museum—Ship model move
No further questions will be accepted.
1. Do you by chance know if these model ships are already crated or if that's something we would need to do?
Answer: The glass panels will need to be crated/boxed by the movers, but the other elements do not need to be crated.
2. Do the ships come apart in pieces or is it just one solid piece?
Answer: The ships do come apart; the ship models are on bases that are separate from the larger bases.
3. Can you provide me with the value of the model ships? I need this value for insurance purposes.
Answer: The USS America model that is shipping to Bethesda is valued at $250,000. The USS Maryland model that is shipping to Norfolk is valued at $30,000.
4. Is the ship model secured to the base?
Answer: Yes, but we cannot say how securely it is attached. Contractor would need to anticipate that it is not that secure.
5. Do the planes on the deck of the model shipping to Maryland detach?
Answer: We think they do, and if so, they will be packed no later than one day in advance by HRNM staff, if not, movers must account for protecting them. They would not need to be secured, we would just need the move plan to include avoiding anything that could fall on them or impact them during move.
6. Is uncrating or reassembling on delivery end required?
Answer: No
7. How many people are needed:
Answer: The Vendor will decide the appropriate level of personnel to complete the job.
8. How much does the USS America model weigh?
Answer: We do not know, but estimated/guessed it would not be more than 1,000 lb.
