About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document clarifying filter specifications and requirements for a federal contract solicitation.

The solicitation requires six RF filters with specific frequency ranges and filter types: a 2200-2400 MHz band-pass filter, a 2600-3700 MHz band-stop filter, a 350-450 MHz band-pass filter, a 5300-6000 MHz band-stop filter, a 5600-5700 MHz band-pass filter, and a 1400-1900 MHz band-pass filter. All filters must meet the following specifications: attenuation of at least 30 dB, SMA female-to-SMA female connectors, power handling of 1 W or greater, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.5:1 or less, and passband ripple of 1 dB or less. The document clarifies that no specific rejection distance requirements or filter roll-off rates (dB per decade) are mandated; instead, vendors must provide reasonable roll-off with a minimum 30 dB rejection outside the bandpass frequencies or within the specified band rejection frequencies. Size has no constraints, though smaller designs are preferred. The insertion loss specification applies to the center frequency only.

Text version

Q. While obtaining a quotation from our manufacturer, they advised that the solicitation does not appear to include the required stopband specifications (frequency and attenuation). These values are essential for the design and quotation of the requested filters.

Could you please provide the missing stopband frequency and attenuation requirements, or advise if there is an additional attachment or document containing this information?

A. The frequencies were listed in the original requirements 2nd and 3rd line item of each filter requirement and listed below.

All Filters: Attenuation: >= 30 dB

BP = band-pass, BS = band-stop.

1. 2200-2400 MHz, BP

2. 2600-3700 MHz, BS

3. 350-450 MHz, BP

4. 5300-6000, BS

5. 5600-5700, BP

6. 1400-1900 MHz, BP

Connectors: SMA female – SMA female

Attenuation: >=30 dB

Size: No constraints, smaller always better

Power handling: >=1 W

VSWR: <= 1.5:1

PB ripple: <=1 dB

Q: What are Rejection specs and how far do you need to reject the frequencies

Is insertion loss spec for Center frequency only.

A: We don’t have specific rejection (attenuation) requirements or filter roll off (dBs per decade) requirements. We are simply asking for a reasonable roll off with a rejection of at least 30 dB outside of the bandpass or within the band rejection frequencies specified.
