FIRST ARTICLE TEST PLAN FOR MK 117 BLAST DEFLECTORS
1.0 GENERAL
This test plan is supplied to the vendor as information only. The vendor is to manufacture blast deflectors in accordance with the contract statement of work. The vendor is not required to perform this test plan.
a. The standard quantity of deflectors to be submitted for inspection under this test plan shall be ten
(10). The units submitted shall be manufactured using the same supplies, processes, and procedures that the vendor will be using for production units.
b. All ten (10) of the deflectors shall be "end item" units in accordance with the contract requirements.
2.0 TESTS TO BE PREFORMED BY NSWC, I.H. ON FINISHED UNITS
a. All units shall be radiographically inspected, in the 0, 90, degree planes, lAW MIL-STD-2175, Class 1, grade C using reference radiograph ASTM E192.
b. All units shall undergo a full dimensional inspection. Hardness, Rockwell C, shall be measured at both sides of the standoff and the insulation sleeving.
c. Two units will be checked for plating thickness and adhesion. These units will be checked on both sides of the standoff by any suitable procedure in accordance with method ASTM B 571.
d. Two units will be salt spray tests in accordance with method ASTM B 117.
e. Two units will be cut up for tensile bar and material verification.
f. After the units have successfully passed tests 2.0 a. and b. of this test plan, two deflectors shall be motor loaded with Condition Code A hardware and propellant grains. One motor shall be conditioned to -40 degrees F, one shall be conditioned to +125 degrees F, IAW MIL-R85769. Both shall then be statically fired IAW MIL-R-85769.
3.0 EXAMINATION OF CERTIFICATIONS AND DATA (ALL BLAST DEFLECTORS)
a. The following certifications shall be reviewed for information content and format:
- material certification (chemical composition)
- dimensional certifications
- plating certifications
4.0 APPLICATION OF THIS TEST PLAN
a. Naval Surface Warfare Center, I. H. (NSWC, I. H) reserves the right to omit certain steps in this test plan. The decision to omit steps shall be based on how much past experience the vendor has on manufacturing MK 117 Blast Deflectors.
