About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document dated 09/08/2026 for federal contract opportunity CSS N0017326QKN06 pertaining to an acoustic projector procurement.
The government is procuring a spherical acoustic projector with specific technical requirements. Sound pressure level specifications are referenced at a 1-meter range across frequencies from 500 Hz to 10 kHz, with a maximum input power of 14 kW required to meet these specifications. The projector construction must be spherical in shape but does not need to be a monolithic design; it may be constructed as a spherical mosaic or other composite structure meeting all specifications. The omnidirectional specification is a true three-dimensional requirement, with cables not affecting the omnidirectional performance. The government confirmed there is no cybersecurity requirement under DFARS 252.204-7021 since the device is unclassified; however, products from adversarial nations, such as China, cannot be used. The government declined to share existing projector designs or part numbers to maintain vendor flexibility and encourage innovative solutions. All responses must meet the stated technical parameters regardless of the internal construction methodology used.

Q&A 09/08/2026
Question 1:
We would like to respond to opportunity about an acoustic projector. There are a list of specs about sound pressure level at various frequencies but it does not specify at what distance.
As you may know, a sound source would have decreasing sound pressure levels as you get farther away from it. Or perhaps you mean sound power level? That is not distance dependant.
Answer 1:
The sound pressure levels are reference to a 1 meter range.
Question 2:
The solicitation includes DFARS 252.204-7021, Contractor Compliance with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level Requirements. We did not identify a specific required CMMC level in the posted solicitation or specifications. Would you please confirm the CMMC level, if any, that an offeror must have current in SPRS to be eligible for award under N0017326QKN06?
Answer 2:
We do not have a cybersecurity requirement. The device is unclassified. However, we cannot use a product from an adversarial nation, for example, China.
Question 3:
Customer Requested Requirement: Directionality: maximum Input power of 14KW. i.e. Can we assume that if the specifications are be met at any input power level, this will be acceptable?
Answer 3:
The maximum input power to the projector is 14 kW to meet the sound pressure level specification at all frequencies from 500 Hz to 10 kHz.
Question 4:
The projector construction is listed as “sphere”. Does this mean that the actual transducer must be a spherical monolith, or is a construction of several smaller projectors in the rough shape of a sphere acceptable (assuming the other requirements are met)?
Answer 4:
The projector does not have to be a monolith. It can be in the shape of a spherical mosaic or other structure to meet all specifications
Question 5:
Is the omnidirectional specification a true 3-D requirement, and if so, is there some allowance for the space directly above the projector?
Answer 5:
The omnidirectional specification is three-dimensional. The cable does not affect the omnidirectional specification
Question 6:
Do you use any similar styles of projectors currently that you could share the specs or part numbers for?
Answer 6:
We do not want to share designs to keep vendors in a free-thinking manner
