About this file

The document is a Conceptual Plan prepared by the City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department for a Temporary Treatment System Location at their Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The plan outlines a stormwater treatment system designed to handle flow from the recycling yard and parking lot, with a capacity to treat up to 400 gallons per minute (GPM). The system will include Baker tanks (20,000-gallon capacity each), sand filters, generator and fuel cell, controls/sampling ports, and a diversion box. The project area covers approximately 25' x 150', with a planned rental period of five months.

The conceptual plan specifies technical details for the treatment system, including an Oldcastle Precast diversion box, sampling ports for influent, midpoint, and effluent monitoring, and provisions for sump pumping. The system is intended to meet Industrial General Permit (IGP) requirements, with the contractor having flexibility in layout within the designated work/staging limits. Specific infrastructure components include approximately 50' of storm drain pipe, 100' of additional piping, and provisions for preventing tank overflow through strategic water diversion.

1. ALL STORMWATER FROM IMPERVIOUS AREAS OF THE RECYCLING YARD AND PARKING

LOT IS COLLECTED AT THE DIVERSION BOX. THE DIVERSION BOX IS DESIGNED

TO OVERFLOW ONCE FLOW EXCEEDS 400 GPM.

2. TREATMENT SYSTEM LAYOUT DOES NOT NEED TO MATCH DESIGN SHOWN, THE AREA

FOR THE SYSTEM IS ROUGHLY 25' x 150'. THE CONTRACTOR MAY UTILIZE THE

AFOREMENTIONED SPACE AS THEY SEE FIT.

3. TREATMENT SYSTEM MUST HAVE SAMPLING PORTS FOR INFLUENT, MIDPOINT, AND

EFFLUENT FLOWS.

4. A SUMP WILL BE REQUIRED TO PUMP WATER FROM THE DIVERSION BOX TO THE

INFLUENT BAKER TANK. SUMP PUMP AND ASSOCIATED PIPING TO BE INSTALLED BY

THE CONTRACTOR.

5. SANDBAGS SHALL BE PLACED TO DIVERT WATER INTO A SD PIPE AS A PREVENTATIVE

MEASURE FOR BAKER TANKS OVERFLOWING.
