SECTION 01570

TEMPORARY CONTROLS

PART 1: GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

A. The work of this section consists of providing temporary controls.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Before beginning on-site work, submit a recycling plan which includes a list of materials that might be recycled during the course of the contract. This list should name the material, recycling methods, and/or proposed disposal location. This list is for information only. Recycling is strictly voluntary, but highly encouraged.

PART 2: PRODUCTS

(There are no applicable requirements)

PART 3: EXECUTION

3.1 HOUSEKEEPING

A. Keep project neat, orderly, and in a safe condition at all times.

B. Provide enough containers for collecting demolition debris and materials to be recycled.

C. Wet down dry materials and rubbish to prevent blowing dust.

D. Keep volatile wastes in covered containers. Volatile wastes are not anticipated, but cannot be ruled out.

3.2 DISPOSAL

A. Dispose of excess excavated material (including rocks and boulders) that cannot be reused.

B. Unless otherwise specified, all removed material becomes the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of off Government property.

C. Immediately remove hazardous rubbish from project site. Place other demolition debris in refuse containers at least daily. Dispose of refuse at least weekly, in a legal manner, at public or private dumping areas. Do not burn or bury refuse on-site.

3.3 AIR AND WATER POLLUTION CONTROL

A. Take all necessary reasonable measures to reduce air and water pollution by any material or equipment used during demolition.

B. Do not dispose of volatile wastes or oils in storm or sanitary drains. Volatile wastes are not anticipated, but cannot be ruled out.

C. Do not allow waste materials to be washed into streams or bodies of water.

PART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

A. Units: The work described in this section will not be measured for payment.

4.2 BASIS OF PAYMENT

A. Payment: No direct payment for the work described under this section will be made. Consideration for this item shall be included in the bid price for other items of the Contract.

SECTION 02220

REMOVAL OF BUILDINGS, PAVEMENTS, AND STRUCTURES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

A. The work of this section consists of demolition and removal of buildings and abandoned utilities. The work includes leveling the disturbed areas after demolition.

1.2 RELATED WORK

D. Earthwork – Section 02300.

E. Erosion Control – Section 02370.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. As specified in Section 01009 – General Information and Requirements.

B. Proposed methods of building demolition.

C. Schedule for shutting off utility services.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with safety requirements for demolition, NSC A10.6.

B. Proposed methods of building demolition.

1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Keep dust to a minimum at removal site and on haul roads. Use sprinklers or water trucks as necessary.

B. Ensure safety of persons in demolition area. Provide temporary barricades as required.

C. Ensure protection of areas outside of project area.

D. Explosives: Are not permitted.

PART 2: PRODUCTS

(There are no applicable requirements).

PART 3: EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

E. Protect buildings, structures, utilities, and vegetation not designated to be demolished.

3.2 DEMOLITION

A. Buildings:

Demolish designated buildings completely. Demolish concrete in small sections.

B. Items to be Salvaged: Items to be salvaged by the Government shall be removed prior to demolition work. All other items shall become the property of the Contractor.

C. Abandoned Utilities: Remove aboveground utilities and terminate as approved by the Utility Company and the Contracting Officer. Remove necessary portions of underground utilities to within 24 inches of excavation or final grade. Cap off conduits with minimum 24-inch-long concrete plugs.

3.3 RESTORATION

D. Backfilling: Backfill as indicated on project drawings. The disturbed site shall be leveled and compacted in place.

E. Grading: Grade disturbed surfaces level.

3.4 DISPOSAL

A. Dispose of unsuitable and excess material as specified in Section 01570.

B. Salvaged Material: All salvaged material not previously removed or identified by the Government, shall be the property of the Contractor. Material belonging to the Contractor shall be removed from the site.

PART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

A. Units: The Removal of Buildings, Pavements, and Structures and other work described in this section will be measured on the following basis:

Ticket Booth demolition and Toilet Structure demolition will be measured on a lump sum basis.

4.2 BASIS OF PAYMENT

A. Payment: Prices and payment will be full compensation for the work described in this section. Payment will be made under: ALL SECTIONS WILL BE PAID AS ONE LUMP SUM UPON COMPLETION.

SECTION 02300

EARTHWORK

This Section uses the term "Architect." Change this term to match that used to identify the design professional as defined in the General and Supplementary Conditions.

Verify that Section titles referenced in this Section are correct for this Project's Specifications; Section titles may have changed.

GENERAL

SUMMARY

This Section includes the following:

Adjust list below to suit Project.

Protection of structures, utilities, sidewalks, asphalt, and vegetation not slated or demolition Excavating and backfilling or structures.

DEFINITIONS

Backfill: Soil material used to fill an excavation.

Initial Backfill: Backfill placed beside and over pipe in a trench, including haunches to support sides of pipe.

Final Backfill: Backfill placed over initial backfill to fill a trench.

Borrow Soil: Satisfactory soil imported from off-site for use as fill or backfill.

Utilities: On-site underground pipes, conduits, ducts, and cables, as well as underground services within buildings.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Delete this Article if no existing utilities.

Density testing will be the responsibility of the Contractor at the Contractor’s expense. Contractor shall coordinate testing with an independent testing agency. Results shall be sent directly to the Contracting Officer. Contracting Officer has the authority to request testing at any time. The Contractor shall cooperate by rerouting equipment or by temporarily closing the work area being tested. Correct deficiencies before placing additional backfill. Deficient areas shall be retested and paid for by the Contractor.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

The site was previously a skyway tram, with paved parking areas, access roads, and concrete walkways. No pavement or concrete is to be disturbed except as noted on project drawings or in these specifications.

Existing native soils have minimum corrosion potential.

SUBMITTALS

As specified in Section 01009.

PRODUCTS

EXECUTION

PREPARATION

Protect structures, utilities, sidewalks, pavements, and other facilities from damage caused by settlement, lateral movement, undermining, washout, and other hazards created by earthwork operations.

Protect and maintain erosion and sedimentation controls, as specified in Section 02370 Erosion Controls.

STORAGE OF SOIL MATERIALS

Stockpile borrow soil materials and excavated satisfactory soil materials without intermixing. Place, grade, and shape stockpiles to drain surface water. Cover to prevent windblown dust.

Stockpile soil materials away from edge of excavations.

PROTECTION

Protecting Graded Areas: Protect newly graded areas from traffic, freezing, and erosion. Keep free of trash and debris.

DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS AND WASTE MATERIALS

Disposal: Remove surplus satisfactory soil and waste material, including unsatisfactory soil, trash, and debris, and legally dispose of it off Government property.

PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.1METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
A.Units: The work described in this section will not be measured for payment.
4.2BASIS OF PAYMENT
