mdlogix Applied Data Science Informatics
August 2017
Health Domain: Medical Decision Logic, Inc. (“mdlogix” - www.mdlogix.com) was founded in 1997 with a health mission to support researchers, providers, managers, educators, and public officials by providing them with knowledge, technologies, tools, methods, and practices to work more efficiently and effectively to innovate and improve the health of the world. We offer services and tools to empower patients and families to have an increasing role in their own health care and prevention, to improve their ability to communicate with care professionals, to be better informed about their care and decision choices, and to participate in health science as a process of learning and working together as individuals, teams, and organizations.
Our multi-level approach combines centralization with flexibility to enable advancements in health care delivery systems to improve health, support cost reduction efforts, and integrate and strengthen scientific capabilities for program evaluation and evolution. A key aspect is to enable the routine collection of high quality data and its analysis to generate new knowledge. We provide web and mobile solutions that connect people to make practice and science easier. mdlogix has experience, expertise, and technologies for specification and provision of:
secure registries for diverse users with different login roles patient and family self-report and patient-centered models measurement-based care projects and programs integrating clinical care coordination and case management continuous quality assessment and quality improvement (QAQI) multi-platform (iOS, Android) mobile applications with health data and process backend individual to group (e.g., community) levels of relational network optimization (RNO) protected (personal) health information (PHI) policies and rules.
Broader Community Applications: The web technology platform and science process and data infrastructure that mdlogix initiated nearly two decades ago, has continually evolved and refined with rigorous feedback from partners, collaborators, clients, including scientists, administrators, and many other stakeholders.
Beyond the health domain, mdlogix technology now serves as a general web and mobile platform that can efficiently and reliably support any programs, projects, sites, and participants, providing them with flexible yet robust assessment, process support, and interactive dashboard analytics, along with long-term centralized and secure data management.
The mdlogix technology platform is in use across 14 states and expanding nationally. Mature and feature rich, it continues to be expanded and refined with regular releases, guided by evolving business and regulatory imperatives and by our user needs and priorities.
This enables mdlogix to work with clients and their organizational systems to more efficiently, and in a systematic and yet flexible manner, create new and better solutions to problem patterns, meeting needs with innovative, reliable, scalable, and evolving products.

A Leading Example: Integrating Behavioral Health Care
BH-Works™ (www.bh-works.com) – There is a global policy and priority need for practical and effective behavioral health risk and psychiatric syndrome screening and tracking to address the interconnected problems of anxiety, depression, alcohol misuse, other substance abuse, bullying, traumatic stress, eating disorders, suicide, psychosocial risk factors, and other issues.
Effective integration is needed across the entire spectrum of public health and medical care.
To meet this need, the mdlogix health science informatics team has worked with behavioral health scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson University, and Drexel University since 2004 to establish and evolve a science-based web technology cloud-computing platform product, BH-Works. Focused on strengthening the ‘behavioral health ecosystem’, by integrating Measurement, Care Processes, and Analytics, enabled by the HSPF data infrastructure, BH- Works is validated at multiple levels, including psychometric, clinical, operational, patient, translational, and commercial. BH-Works readily integrates with EHRs and other systems.
Supported by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), state health departments, hospitals, and others, BH-Works is in use across 14 states and expanding, serving to screen patients, students, and employees for behavioral health problems, facilitate indicated interventions and referral to speciality services, and monitor, report, and analyze at individual and population levels.
Data Science and Technology Services mdlogix provides knowledge-based services with a long-term partnership perspective. For example, starting in 2005, mdlogix worked deeply with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (SoM) to analyze and re-engineer clinical research workflows with software automation. The resultant system went into production use across the entire SoM in 2008, now supports thousands of studies and research teams with increased productivity and compliance.
Our data infrastructure offers flexible yet standardized central data management, serving as an integration and collaboration hub, with secure role-based access and unlimited scalability.
