About this file
This is Addendum #2 issued by Virginia's Community Colleges (VCCS) and Mountain Empire Community College (MECC) for Project Code 260-B3260-105 (M23ME173) regarding the Phillip-Taylor-Goodloe Roof Replacement project. The addendum adds Section 16670 Lightning Protection System specifications, requiring the existing lightning system to be removed, safely stored, re-installed and re-certified by a LPI-certified contractor or UL listed lightning protection installation company to meet original installation requirements. The specifications detail requirements for a functional and unobtrusive lightning protection system that must comply with NFPA 780 and UL 96A standards.
The contractor must coordinate with other trades for proper installation, with the roofing contractor responsible for sealing and flashing all lightning protection roof penetrations per manufacturer recommendations. Upon completion, the system must be inspected by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. or another ANSI certified testing agency for compliance, and the contractor must obtain a UL Master Label Certificate of Inspection. The system must bond to the structure, electrode system, and gas piping as required by code (NEC 250.106, NFPA 54:7.13.4), with the lightning protection system label including all services without exceptions.
