About this file
This is a Sole Source Determination document from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) for contracting with Matson's Laboratory, LLC for wildlife research services. The document details a three-year contract for processing and aging wildlife teeth samples through Cementum Age Analysis and Tetracycline Biomarker Analysis for various species including deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, cougar, black bear, bobcat, river otter, and marten. ODFW will submit multiple tooth sample shipments annually, with the contract providing critical data for wildlife population management and research across Oregon.
The contract has a total estimated value not to exceed $225,000.00 and is justified by Matson's Laboratory's unique, long-standing methodology and extensive experience in wildlife research dating back to 1969. ODFW has utilized Matson's services for over 35 years, citing the laboratory's unparalleled accuracy and precision in age and biomarker analysis. The sole source determination is supported by compatibility considerations, scientific community acceptance, and the ability to maintain consistent testing variables for wildlife population research and modeling. The document was prepared by Richard Green and is set to be approved by the ODFW Contract Services Manager on 3/4/2025.
