About this file
The Material Specifications document is a comprehensive set of technical specifications for landscaping materials for the Pinellas County School District in Florida. The document details precise requirements for 26 different types of materials including asphalt millings, beach sand, clay, concrete bedding stone, crushed stone, mulch, engineered wood fiber, fill dirt, limerock, limestone screening, masonry sand, oyster shell, potting soil, and various other landscaping and construction-related materials. The specifications are designed to ensure high-quality, consistent materials that meet specific standards, with many referencing Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specifications and other industry standards.
The document provides extremely detailed technical requirements for each material, including composition, particle size, purity, acceptable sources, and performance characteristics. For example, beach sand must be an open-graded silica/calcium carbonate product that is clean and virtually free of organic material, while fill dirt must allow for good compaction and have specific bearing capacities. The specifications also include a comprehensive soil classification table that details allowable bearing capacities, drainage characteristics, frost heave potential, and volume change potential for different soil groups. These precise specifications suggest the Pinellas County School District is seeking to maintain strict quality control for materials used in various construction, landscaping, and maintenance projects across their facilities.
