DODIC G881
M67 Fragmentation Hand Grenade
Item Description
The M67 Fragmentation Hand Grenade (DODIC G881) is used to supplement small arms fire against enemies in close combat. The grenade produces casualties by high velocity projection of fragments in a uniform distribution pattern. The grenade body is a 2.5-inch diameter steel sphere containing 6.5 ounces of Composition B high explosive and is fitted with an M213 Fuze designed to function 4 to 5 seconds after release of the safety lever. The M213 Fuze is equipped with a steel safety pin, pull ring and safety clip to prevent the safety lever from snapping upward.
Later production M67 Grenades are also equipped with a confidence clip on the M213 Fuze which retains the pull ring until the grenade is deployed.
Safety Precautions
• Do not handle the grenade if its safety pin/pull ring or safety lever is missing. Notify the OIC or NCOIC immediately.
• If a grenade is packed upside down (fuze down), do not attempt to remove it from its container. Notify the OIC or NCOIC immediately.
• Never carry or handle a grenade by its safety pull ring. The safety pin might separate from the fuze.
DODIC G881 is classified as a 1.1F munition and is safe to handle using standard precautions.
Visual Inspection
The following guidelines are provided to visually inspect field-returned material. With the exception of factory-sealed boxes, container, or original packaging, all field-returned material must be thoroughly inspected to ensure that the ammunition is safe for storage and acceptable for reissue. Inspect for all defects in each inspection criteria before continuing to the next inspection.
Follow local procedures for additional inspection, safety, and handling guidelines.
Outer Container Inspection
The M67 Grenade is packed 1 per fiber container, 30 containers per wooden box.
Visually inspect the outer container for possible damage that may compromise the integrity or safety of the ammunition inside. The inspection criteria for the outer container are as follows.
• Lot number missing or illegible is a major defect, proceed to Inner Container inspection and attempt to determine missing information. Follow local procedure for disposition if lot number cannot be determined. Correct markings as required.
Attachment 4 12 March 2019
• Other markings missing, illegible, or incorrect is a minor defect, proceed to Inner Container inspection and attempt to determine missing information. Correct markings as required.
• Ammunition returned in non-standard or unauthorized containers is a major defect, proceed to Individual Item inspection. Discard and replace with authorized ammunition container prior to storage. Follow local ASP procedure for disposition if lot number cannot be determined.
• Severe punctures that appear to penetrate both outer and inner container, crushed container is a major defect. Discard and replace with serviceable container.
• Shallow punctures, splintered wood, water damage, dry rot, other cosmetic damage is a minor defect.
• Opened containers or damaged hardware used to secure the outer container is a minor defect.
• Follow local procedures for securing and storing the ammunition if the outer container is missing or unserviceable and cannot be replaced.
• If there is no defect, follow local procedures for securing the ammunition for storage.
Notes: At a minimum, the markings should include the DODIC, lot number, NSN, and quantity. All munitions must be stored in the original or authorized ammunition containers.
Inner Container Inspection
Visually inspect the inner container for possible damage that may compromise the integrity or safety of the ammunition inside. The inspection criteria for the inner container are as follows.
• Lot number missing or illegible is a major defect, proceed to Individual Item inspection and attempt to determine missing information. Follow local procedure for disposition if lot number cannot be determined. Correct markings as required.
• Other markings missing, illegible, or incorrect is a minor defect, proceed to Individual Item inspection and attempt to determine missing information. Correct markings as required.
• Severe punctures that appear to penetrate container or crushed container is a major defect.
• Wet or damp container, caked with mud or dirt is a major defect, remove packaging and visually inspect ammunition. Do not repack ammunition with wet packaging material.
• Loose grenades, missing inner pack is a major defect.
• If the inner container is missing or unserviceable and cannot be replaced, follow local procedures for securing and storing the ammunition.
• If there is no defect, follow local procedures for securing the ammunition for storage.
Notes: Prior to repackaging and returning to storage, ensure that the DODIC, lot number, NSN, and quantity on the inner container matches the markings on the outer container.

The inspection criteria for the individual grenade are as follows.
• Grenade packed upside down in inner pack is a critical defect, do not remove grenade from its container. Notify the OIC or NCOIC immediately.
• Safety pin missing is a critical defect, do not handle grenade. Notify the OIC or NCOIC immediately.
• Safety pin loose, unauthorized, damaged, not spread, or missing diamond crimp is a critical defect, secure the safety pin with tape, place defective ammunition in a holding area. Follow local procedure for disposition.
