About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document specifying requirements for one-man pulks (sleds) with tow systems and harnesses to support the USMC Winter Mountain Leaders Course.
The contractor shall provide pulks/sleds, tow systems, and harnesses for cold weather mountain operations towed by one person. The pulk/sled must meet specific physical dimensions: length between 48-72 inches, width between 20-28 inches, and height between 6-18 inches. The complete system (pulk, poles, and harness) shall weigh between 10-25 pounds with a payload capacity exceeding 40 pounds but not exceeding 100 pounds, and a payload volume capacity between 300-550 liters. The sled/pulk shall be white or cold weather camouflaged, constructed from rigid fiber-reinforced resin laminate, fiberglass, or cross-linked polyethylene with a rounded front section to prevent snow diving and featuring replaceable or molded runners. The tow system and harness must enable safe and efficient movement in winter mountain environments, be wearable with or without USMC packs, include a quick release system, be MOLLE compatible, and be interoperable with the Field Pack (USMC PACK ASSEMBLY C54402F) hip belt for towing options. All products must be commercial-grade winter expedition/touring equipment that is durable, resistant to abrasion and environmental conditions, and capable of supporting cold weather mountain employment including sustainment and towing by a single Marine for a fire team of four.
