2.1 GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES

The triangular symbol shown here is used throughout this manual to indicate areas where special precautions should be taken in order to avoid personal injury. Please take special note of the instructions and procedures given wherever this symbol is displayed.

Making better and safer equipment is of paramount importance to Bouldin & Lawson, LLC. Due to the nature of the equipment itself, there is no practical way to completely eliminate total risk of injury and maintain the high degree of efficiency and utility of the equipment our customers demand. We build equipment to be the safest available while maintaining the utility the customer demands and deserves.

Bouldin & Lawson strongly encourages proper training and education of all personnel operating the equipment. As part of this training and education we also encourage our customers to insure that each user of the equipment is familiar with its operation, the safety precautions and inherent dangers associated with the machine, and to provide adequate and constant supervision of operators. While the last of these requests is not always practical during the course of a business day, it is the responsibility of the customer to monitor employees and workers in order to minimize the risk of employee/worker injury.

WARNING

Carbon Monoxide Gas Can Be FATAL!!!

Do not operate the EOCD™ within an enclosed area. Carbon Monoxide gas is a colorless, odorless gas that is generated whenever internal combustion engines are operating. Prolonged inhalation of air contaminated with only a small percentage of carbon monoxide gas may cause injury or death.

Never operate the EOCD™ unless all original guards, shields, covers, etc. are in their proper location and undamaged. Operation of this EOCD™ with damaged or inoperable guards, shields, covers, etc. could result in damage to the EOCD™, injury, or death.

We strongly recommend all employees that are loading and unloading the hoppers of the EOCD unit wear sufficient ear protection. Hearing protection with a NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) of 25 or better is recommended for continuous exposures to the anticipated noise levels while operating this equipment. The following guidelines are recommended for operators and any personnel located around the area while this equipment is in operation.

Decibel Reading 95 to 110 dbs.

Recommended double hearing protection within 20'

Single protection 20' to 40'

None required outside 40'

Disconnect the battery before beginning any repair work on the engine unit. Put a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the controls before performing any maintenance to any components of the EOCD™ unit.

Storage batteries produce and release explosive hydrogen gas when charging. The slightest spark, flame or burning ash can ignite these gases causing a serious explosion that could result in blindness or other injury.

EOCD™ O&M Manual Revision: 9 09/19/2018 Section: 2 Safety Page 3

Wear eye protection, rubber apron and rubber gloves when working around a battery or performing battery service. Battery fluid is an extremely caustic sulfuric acid, which can cause severe burns. Do not permit the battery fluid to come in contact with your clothes or skin.

Always disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery before performing battery service or before performing any electrical services on the engine.

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable liquids in the vicinity of the EOCD™.

WARNING Examples of Equipment Misuse

Despite the numerous and seemingly unending list of precautions and safety warnings, some of our customers, their employees, and workers have misused the equipment in the past. “Misuse” means setup, operation, or maintenance of the equipment in a manner inconsistent with its intended function or operation. Below are some examples of conceivable equipment misuse in direct conflict with intended use and examples of misuse by ignoring or not heeding safety warnings and precautions provided to the customer.

EVERY EXAMPLE PROVIDED IN THE FOLLOWING LIST DOES NOT RELATE TO ANY KNOWN

INCIDENT OR ACCIDENTAL OCCURRENCE RESULTING IN AN INJURY TO A WORKER,

EMPLOYEE, OR USER OF EQUIPMENT OF THE TYPE TO WHICH THIS MANUAL RELATES. THE

EXAMPLES HERE PROVIDED ARE TO ASSIST IN THE SUPERVISION OF WORKERS,

EMPLOYEES, OR USERS OF THE EQUIPMENT.

Bouldin & Lawson equipment has been or is being MISUSED:

1. If the equipment is operated with any guards or shields removed from the machine.

2. If any personnel reaches into the machine, while operating or during maintenance, without the E-stop in the locked position.

3. If any personnel climbs upon the machine to observe while the machine is operating.

4. If any disabling switches are bypassed or removed from the machine.

5. If any warning labels are not observed.

6. If a problem within the operating parameters of the machine are ignored and operation of the machine continues without correcting the problem.

7. If all access doors are not in place and secured.

8. If any guard is not in place for any reason. Guards removed for inspection and or adjustments must be replaced prior to powering up and running the machine.

9. If control panel doors are open during operation or while the machine is running. If fuses or overloads are reset, these doors must be closed before operation.

EOCD™ O&M Manual Revision: 9 09/19/2018 Section: 2 Safety Page 4

2.2 SAFETY CAUTION

Keep all guards and shields securely in place when operating this equipment. Disconnect electrical power and any other applicable power sources before performing any maintenance or repairs. Once repairs are complete, replace all guards and shields. Bouldin & Lawson will not be responsible for injuries sustained if guards or shields have been removed.

Bouldin & Lawson, LLC will not be responsible in any way whatsoever, if a machine or its components, in part or whole, have been used in a manner inconsistent with their intended design or purpose.

2.3 WARNING LABELS

Various injury or hazards warning labels have been strategically placed on every Bouldin & Lawson machine before it is shipped from the factory.

The labels are believed to be of sufficient integrity to be clearly visible, assuming they are not covered by debris, throughout the useful life of the Bouldin & Lawson machine. However, it is possible that a label could be removed by application of an appropriate solvent, or be forcibly peeled or scraped from the machine.

It is good maintenance practice to periodically inspect the machine to insure the appropriate labels are attached. For example, we suggest whenever a Bouldin & Lawson machine is taken out of service for maintenance, or an unlikely repair event, we recommend the machine be examined to insure all warning labels are present and adequately visible. This type of inspection will safeguard workers and employees, and we would be happy to give assistance.

IF, AT ANY TIME DURING THE USEFUL LIFE OF ANY BOULDIN & LAWSON MACHINE, A

DECAL SHOULD BECOME REMOVED, LOOSENED, PARTIALLY OR WHOLLY INVISIBLE OR

UNREADABLE, PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY AND WE WILL SEND REPLACEMENT

LABELS FOR RE-APPLICATION.

3.4 Product Information and Summary of Features

The primary power unit is a diesel engine with Clutch. Power is transferred through a belt drive system that turns the EOCD™ Grinder Drum. The Rotary Drum is mounted inside of a vertical housing. This allows the

DRUM to turn horizontally as the material is loaded into the top of the housing. The material drops down through baffles and onto the Drum. The baffles are provided to prevent any material from escaping back out the infeed of the Grinder. As the Drum turns at high speeds, the hammer/cutters deform the brass material. In the bottom of the Drum is a removable “Grate” used to facilitate the deformation of smaller casings and a

“Block-Off Plate” is used when deforming larger 20mm (50 caliber) casings. Once deformed, the casings exit into the inclined discharge conveyor that carries the deformed casings away.

The operator loads expended ordnance into the Inclined Infeed Conveyor Hopper. The Infeed Conveyor transfers the expended ordnance into the EOCD™ Grinder where it is processed and expelled out onto the

Outfeed Conveyor. The deformed casings exit the machine from the Outfeed Conveyor.

4.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Expended Ordnance Casing Deformer “EOCD” is manufactured by Bouldin & Lawson, LLC.

The EOCD is powered by a diesel engine. The diesel engine supplies power to the EOCD™ Grinder unit and a hydraulic pump and hydraulic motors that drive the Infeed and Outfeed Conveyors.

Ordnance casings are deformed as they are processed through the EOCD™ Grinder. The Infeed and Outfeed conveyors transfer casings through the system. The deformer unit processes ordnance casings up to 20mm in size.

A 30 gallon diesel fuel tank and a 30 gallon hydraulic fluid tank are mounted to the trailer.

An operator loads expended ordnance into the Inclined Infeed Conveyor Hopper which transfers it into the

EOCD™ Grinder unit. Deformed casings exit the machine on the Incline Outfeed Conveyor.

The Mobile Ordnance Deformer unit is mounted on a low profile trailer with electric break system and break away safety feature. The trailer is a duel axel unit with marker lights, turn signals and brake lights. The unit is dot approved for highway use.

The Ordnance Deformer design parameters are to contain fragment and thermal hazards in the event the primer and or powder are ignited or a live round discharge occurs within the unit during processing.

EOCD™ O&M Manual Revision: 9 09/19/2018 Section: 4 Operation Instructions Page 8

1. Main Switch: The main switch key starts and stops the diesel engine. No work, adjustments, maintenance or repair is to be conducted with this switch in the ON position. Refer to the engine

Operation & Maintenance Manual and Murphy PowerView display user guide for engine operation and maintenance instructions.

2. Clutch Engage/Disengage: This lever is located on top and vertical on the Clutch located to the left side of the engine. This lever not only engages power to the Grinder, but it also engages power to the Hydraulic Pump that drives both the Infeed and Outfeed Conveyors.

NOTE: The clutch lever must be pushed forward firmly until it locks into the engaged position. If you are having problems with the equipment running check to make sure you are pushing the clutch lever all the way in to fully engage the clutch.

CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT

WITH THE BELT DRIVE GUARD REMOVED

3. Hydraulic Shutoff Valve: The large valve located on the bottom of the Hydraulic tank is a cut off valve. This large valve controls the hydraulic fluid to the pump. This valve is shown in the OFF position in the picture illustration. Make sure it is turned to the ON position before operating the equipment.

4. Hydraulic Flow Controls: The two controls located on the lines coming from the filter are flow controls. The speed of the infeed and outfeed conveyors is controlled with these valves. These control valves are factory set and should not need to be adjusted by the operator. The speed ratio between the infeed and outfeed conveyors must be maintained if the flow controls are adjusted. The infeed conveyor must operate at a speed rate of 25% less than the outfeed.

Since both the infeed and outfeed conveyors flow control valves are feeding from a single line, adjustment to one valve could

This valve is shown in the OFF position. Make sure it is turned to the ON position before operating the equipment.

EOCD™ O&M Manual Revision: 9 09/19/2018 Section: 4 Operation Instructions Page 9 affect the flow of the other. If adjustments are made to either flow control you must then follow the procedure below to confirm that the infeed conveyor is still operating at a speed of 25% less than the outfeed conveyor.

DO NOT LOAD MATERIAL INTO THE MACHINE UNTIL THE SPEED RATE OF THE

INFEED CONVEYOR HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE AT 25% LESS THAN THE

OUTFEED.

a. Place a mark on the end of the shaft at the bearing on one end of each conveyor as shown in the illustration.

b. Start the machine and run the conveyors.

Count the shaft revolutions per minute of each conveyor.

c. The MAXIMUM speed rate for the Infeed

Conveyor is 20 feet per minute. The conveyor shaft should be turning at 22 revolutions per minute. This equals to approximately 20 feet per minute conveyor speed.

d. If necessary adjust the flow controls until the rpm speed rate of the infeed conveyor shaft is 22 rpm MAX.

e. Check the outfeed conveyor shaft RPM and adjust the flow control if necessary to achieve a minimum

RPM rate of at least 25% greater than the infeed.

Refer to the chart for correct settings.

f. The run rates and speed adjustment procedures and limits above are given as a general guide to maintain proper operating parameters. It is the responsibility of the operators, maintenance and supervisory personnel to monitor the equipment for proper operation and take action to make adjustments or perform required maintenance work if necessary to correct any problems that could damage the equipment or cause injury. 4.7.2 Start Up & Shut Down of the Diesel Engine:

1. Disengage the clutch

2. For proper engine start up and shut down procedures, read the “OPERATION SECTION” of the Perkins

Operation and Maintenance Manual included with the engine. Turn the switch key to the START position to start the engine.

3. The SPEED SWITCH located on the control panel is used to RAISE and LOWER engine speed. At engine start a simple bump up in throttle will not cause the engine RPM to rise. If you flick the switch up quickly a couple of times the engine will respond and throttle normally. Another way to “wake” the throttle is to first flip the switch down as in to reduce the throttle. After this the engine will throttle normally.

You will have to wake the throttle this way after every key cycle. Bump the switch up or down twice to activate speed control. Operate the engine at idle and note the oil pressure is normal and there are no leaks or unusual noises from the engine. If oil pressure is too low or the engine is making strange noises turn the engine off and refer to the Perkins Operation and Maintenance Manual.

4. With the Engine running, just above idle, engage the Clutch.

5. Adjust engine speed until proper engine RPM is achieved. Operation speed is 1800 rpm.

6. To Shut Down the engine, disengage the clutch and return engine to idle speed for 3 to 5 minutes.

Never shut down the engine at run speed or full throttle.

7. Shut the engine down by turning the key to the off position.

4.7.3 Obstructions:

It is possible during the operating cycle of the EOCD™ Grinder that an obstruction may occur. If an obstruction occurs:

DO NOT REACH WITHIN THE WORKING AREAS OF THE MACHINE TO REMOVE

OBSTRUCTIONS.

AN OBSTRUCTION IS DEFINED AS ANY OBJECT, ROUND, CONTAINER OR FOREIGN

OBJECT THAT HAS COME TO REST WITHIN THE OPERATING PARAMETERS OF THE

MACHINE IN AN AREA THAT IT DOES NOT BELONG.

IN ORDER TO SAFELY AND PROPERLY REMOVE AN OBSTRUCTION, THE OPERATOR

MUST FIRST STOP THE MACHINE BY TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION

ONLY AFTER THE MACHINE IS COMPLETELY STOPPED SHOULD THE OPERATOR

OPEN OR REMOVE A GUARD TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE OBSTRUCTION AND

REMOVE IT.

After the obstruction is removed, inspect the machine to make sure that the obstruction and its removal has not damaged the machine. After this is complete, REPLACE ALL GUARDS and shut all doors prior to restarting the machine and resuming operation.

The Bouldin & Lawson, LLC EOCD™ Ordnance Deformer is built for maximum performance and minimum maintenance. As with all equipment, there are points to check as the machine is first run. Review the regular general maintenance section below to assist you in keeping your equipment in good condition.

For unexpected problems that may occur, review the TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE in Section 4.8.4 below for assistance. Also check the SET-UP instructions in Section 4.5 to ensure you have performed all of the necessary set-up steps prior to running the equipment.

NOTE: Do not attempt to disassemble or repair any part, component, or equipment without first contacting

Bouldin & Lawson customer service to see if it falls within the warranty period specified in the BOULDIN

AND LAWSON, LLC, LIMITED WARRANTY. Unauthorized disassembly or repairs made to any part, component, or equipment will void the warranty.

4.8.1 GENERAL MAINTENANCE

ALWAYS TURN THE POWER OFF AND LOCK–OUT BEFORE CLEANING OR

PERFORMING MAINTENANCE SERVICE

The Mobile Ordnance Deformer has several moving parts that must be greased and/or oiled and kept tight to increase the life of these parts and your machine.

1. SPRAY LUBRICANT: The moving parts that do not contain greaseable or non-greaseable bearings should be lubricated at least once a week. The EOCD™ grinder drum assembly should be blown off at the end of each week and sprayed with WD-40 or an equivalent type lubricant. B&L recommends using a chain and spray lubricant. When storing for long times between use, your machine should be cleaned and lubricated before storing or reusing.

2. TIGHTEN BOLTS: Inspect bolts, nuts and all fittings regularly to be sure maximum tightness is maintained. All bolts should remain tight.

3. GRINDER TEETH: Check for excessive wear or damage of grinder teeth at the beginning of each shift. There are 27 Grinder teeth holders that are attached to the drum of the grinder. A grinder tooth is attached to each of these holders with two 3/8-16 X 2 3/4 GR 8 HEX

CAP SCREWS. The teeth need to be maintained and replaced as they become worn, chipped, or damaged.

Operating the grinder with excessively worn or broken teeth can cause damage to the holders.

Operating the grinder with worn or damaged teeth may also result in decreased performance.

EOCD™ O&M Manual Revision: 9 09/19/2018 Section: 4 Operation Instructions Page 12

4. TEETH HOLDERS: There are 27 Grinder teeth holders that are attached to the drum of the grinder.

At the beginning of each shift, check that each tooth holder turns freely on its shaft and lubricate with chain lube, 30wt motor oil or hydraulic oil. B&L recommends using a chain and spray lubricant. The holders need to be re-lubricated every 8 hours of run time and every 4 hours if the material being processed is heavily contaminated with dirt, sand or other debris.

The recommended method for lubrication of the teeth holders:

A. Push the tooth holder over to one side as far as possible.

B. Apply lubricant to the shaft in the exposed area.

C. Push the tooth holder back over and spin it around on the shaft.

5. CONVEYOR CHAINS:

Lubrication: The Conveyor Chains need to be lubricated every 8 hours of run time and every 4 hours if the material being processed is heavily contaminated with dirt, sand or other debris. The guards on the take-up end of the conveyors have access holes for access to lubricate the chains. Lubrication should be sufficient to cover the full length of each chain all the way around. The sprocket and chains are located directly below the access holes.

Lubrication should be applied directly toward the sprocket and chain.

Conveyor Chain Tension: Maintaining the proper tension on conveyor chains is important. Check chain tension every 160 hours of run time. Always be aware of any changes in the sound of the chains when running the equipment. Popping, grinding or unusual sounds may indicate a problem with chain tension that could damage the machine.

The chains and sprockets may be damaged or wear out prematurely if proper chain tension is not maintained. Remove the guard and check the slack in the chain on the lower side. NOTE: Do not over tighten conveyor chains. If chains are too tight it will cause unnecessary stress and could damage the chains and sprockets.

6. CONVEYOR DRIVE CHAINS:

Lubrication: The drive chains on the infeed and outfeed conveyors should be lubricated with chain lub every 6 months. B&L recommends using a chain and spray lubricant.

Drive Chain Tension: The infeed and outfeed drive chains tension should be checked after the first 80 hours of run time and every 160 hours after the initial break in period.

The drive chains should not have more than ½” slack. Loosen the hydraulic motor mount bolts and move the motor out or remove a half link from the chain to tighten the chain tension if necessary.

NOTE: DO NOT USE GASOLINE AS A CLEANING AGENT

4.8.2 BEARINGS INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE

All bearing units are pre-lubricated with grease chosen for its chemical and mechanical stability.

1. HYDRAULIC DRIVE BEARINGS:

The bearings on the drive unit to the hydraulic pump should be lubricated once each year with approximately two shots of grease. Lubrication should be by the same standard and interval as for the conveyor bearings referenced below.

2. CONVEYOR BEARINGS LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE:

The sealed bearings with grease fittings should be lubricated once a year with approximately two shots of grease. Caution: DO NOT

OVER GREASE! Over greasing will cause the seal to rupture. If the machine is being used extensively, the bearings should receive one shot of grease every three months.

Bearings Mounting Instructions:

A. Use clean shaft free of nicks and burrs.

B. Make certain set screws are clear of bore.

C. Slide bearing into position on shaft. Never hammer the ends of the inner race, as they may be damaged. If necessary to apply force, use a brass bar or pipe against the inner race only to drift bearing into place. Never strike the housing as this may damage the bearing.

D. Bolt housing to support.

E. Rotate shaft to make certain it turns freely.

4. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM MAINTENANCE:

Hydraulic fluid level and filter condition should be checked each day. The sight glass on the side of the hydraulic tank indicates high and low fluid levels. B&L recommends ISO Viscosity

Grade 32 hydraulic fluid.

A. Also check fluid for cloudy or milky appearance which indicates water or contamination.

B. Check the filter indicator located on top of the hydraulic filter with system running at operational speed.

C. Refer to the EATON motors, Oilgear pumps and MPF Hydraulic Filter manuals in section 6

“Vendor Literature” for complete maintenance, specifications and service requirements for hydraulic system components.

D. Hydraulic Drive Coupling: Precision alignment of the drive shaft, coupling and hydraulic pump unit is imperative. Misalignment of these components will result in rough operation and cause premature wear of the rubber spider which will damage or destroy the coupling. Check the rubber spider weekly to make sure it is not damaged. Rotate the coupling and check that no parts of the spider are missing, split or damaged.

Wear or damage of the rubber spider indicates misalignment. A straight edge should be used to confirm proper alignment of this coupling.

E. Hydraulic pressure is factory set to

1500 psi. Please contact B&L for assistance if the pressure is not at 1500 psi. when the engine is at operational speed.

F. Hydraulic Filter:

Replace the hydraulic oil filter when required as shown on the indicator gauge.

G. Hydraulic Drive Belt:

Check the hydraulic pump drive belt for excessive wear or damage weekly. Replace if necessary.

5. CLUTCH MAINTENANCE:

The WPT mechanical PTO requires lubrication with NLG1 #2 lithium based grease. During normal operation apply one grease one shot of grease to the release mechanism (sliding sleeve assembly) fitting every 20 hours of operation.

Also lubricate the main bearings (located on the clutch shaft) and operation leaver shaft every 100 hours of operation with one grease hunt shot.

Amount and frequency of lubrication are only a recommendation. Actual requirements will vary, due to load and operating conditions. New units should be monitored for heat and wear for a period of time to determine actual needs.

Refer to the WTD Power Take-Off Installation & Maintenance Manual in vendor literature section

7 for operation and service requirements.
