Attachment 4 – System Instrumentation Instrumentation shall be selected to comply with the listed ranges and accuracies for the specific actuator being tested. Required measurement ranges are listed in Work Package (WP) four (4) in each of the respective actuator NAVAIR manuals. i.e. NAVAIR 03-30ET-61 WP 004 00, NAVAIR 03-30ET-62 WP 004 00, NAVAIR 03-95E-72 WP 004 00. The selection of instrumentation shall also comply with the requirements of calibration as listed in NAVAIR 17-35TR-04 and NAVAIRINST 13640.1B. Accuracy of the instrumentation shall be the more accurate of the requirement of the manuals listed or the respective callout in this section.

4.1. Pressure Measurement.

4.1.1. Thermal Compensation. Transducers shall be thermally compensated over the greater range of 32-140ºF (or better) or the throughout the temperature range of the sensor location (whichever provides the greatest range) and in accordance with the OEM specifications.

4.1.2. Labeling of Hoses. Label all hoses in accordance with the consistent naming convention used throughout the test system.

4.1.3. Transducers Labeling. Label transducers in cabinet. Do not use glue based adhesives, plastic labels, or other labels that will not be durable in an oily environment. The contractor shall label the transducer in a manner consistent with the drawings providing maintenance technicians an easy way of tracing the hoses. In addition, provide a label affixed to the cabinet or electrical cable describing the transducer’s name plate information.

4.1.4. Pressure measurement System. The pressure measurement system shall minimize error and conform to the methods and guidance from the equipment’s manufacturer and ASME PTC 19.2 - Pressure Measurement: Instruments and Apparatus.

4.1.5. Pressure measurement under 200 PSIG . Pressure measurement under 200 PSIG shall be calibrated to 1 PSI (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of at least 0.5 PSIG (or better).

4.1.6. A6.1.6 Pressures measurements from 200 thru 6000 PSIG. Pressure greater than 200PSIG but less than 6000PSIG shall be calibrated to 30 PSI (or better). The sensors shall have a rated accuracy of at least 15 PSIG (or better).

4.1.7. Pressure measurement over 6000 PSIG Pressure greater than 6000 PSIG shall be calibrated to 50 PSI (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of at least 25 PSI (or better).

4.2. Flow Meters. All flow meters shall be calibrated to 0.25% IV over the used range (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of at least 0.1% over the used range (or better). Do not calibrate significantly outside the used range.

4.3. DC Voltage Measurement. DC voltage measurements shall be calibrated to 5% IV (or better) or 0.5VDC (or better), whichever is greater. The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of at least 2.5% IV (or better) or 0.25 VDC (or better), whichever is greater.

4.4. DC Current Measurement. The DC current measurements shall be calibrated to 5% IV (or better) or 0.05 ADC (or better), whichever is greater. The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of at least 2.5% IV (or better) or 0.025ADC (or better), whichever is greater.

4.5. AC Voltage Measurement. The AC Voltage measurement shall be calibrated to 3VAC (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of 1.5VAC (or better).

4.6. AC Current Measurement. The AC Current measurement shall be calibrated to 2.5% IV (or better) or 0.025 VAC (or better), whichever is greater. The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of 1.25% IV (or better) or 0.0125 VAC (or better), whichever is greater.

4.7. Frequency measurement. The frequency measurement shall be calibrated to 4 Hz (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of 2 Hz (or better).

4.8. Temperature Measurement. Temperature measurements shall be calibrated to 5 degF (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of 2.5 degF (or better).

4.9. Thermocouple Circuits. The contractor shall design the system with the understanding that isothermal conditions cannot be guaranteed in the cell. The contractor shall design all junctions with a continuous circuit of thermocouple materials to the properly compensated measuring device. (K-type thermocouple material with copper pins, is an example of an unacceptable circuit).

4.9.1. Soldering. Soldering is discouraged on thermocouple circuits. When required, all soldering on thermocouple circuits shall be accomplished with silver solder of at least 2% silver content.

4.9.2. Testing. The system shall be designed and built such that the indicated temperature shall not deviate by more than five degrees Fahrenheit when heat from a heat gun is applied to any portion of the thermocouple circuit (except the measuring thermocouple junction).

4.9.3. Methodology. The temperature measurement system shall minimize error and conform to the methods and guidance from the equipment’s manufacturer and ASME PTC 19.3 – Temperature Measurement: Instruments and Apparatus.

4.10. Tachometer. Tachometers shall be calibrated to 60 RPM (or better). The sensor shall have a rated accuracy of 20 RPM (or better).

4.11. Flow Measurement. Flow measurements less than 5.5 GPM shall be calibrated to 0.05 GPM (or better). Flow measurements greater than 5.5 GPM shall be calibrated to 0.5 GPM (or better). SAE ARP 4990 – Turbine Flowmeter Fuel Flow Calculations and ASME PTC 19.5 – Flow Measurement shall be used by the contractor in developing the flow measurement standards and in choosing applicable flow measurement systems.
