RADON EXPLANATORY NOTES

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a radon action level of 4.0 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L). Occupied buildings with radon concentrations less than 4.0 pCi/L do not require radon mitigation; un-occupied buildings, or those buildings which are occupied only infrequently for brief periods of time, also do not require radon mitigation. Occupied buildings with radon concentrations greater than

4.0 pCi/L require radon mitigation and verification of radon reductions as soon as possible, with priority given to dormitories and student recreation buildings. Occupied buildings with radon concentrations greater than 20.0 pCi/L should be considered significant radon exposure hazards, and priority for mitigation should be given to buildings with these highly elevated radon concentrations.

Radon mitigation techniques include: (1) adjustment of the building HVAC system to create a positive pressure within the building; (2) sealing of foundation wall cracks, penetrations, or other openings;

(3) sealing crawlspace openings and sump pits; (4) installing an active subslab depressurization (ASD) system.

The 13.8/7.97 kV primary service is brought to the Center at one location from overhead lines along Johnson Road across from CDW Center Building 5900. Power is brought from this location under the road and to the Center where it is turned up for overhead distribution. The primary radial service feeds several pad-mounted and pole-mounted Center owned transformers. The Center has one pole-mounted primary meter located outside the Center's property line near Building 5900. There is no secondary metering. The primary and secondary power lines are owned and maintained by the Center. Some smaller buildings and structures are sub-fed from adjacent buildings.

The solar system consist of 1562 Solar PV modules (Evergreen ES-A series 210W) ground mounted, utilizing the PV mounting system (Panel Claw - Panda Bear GM), with all PV modules, divided to 72 strings with 22 modules per string, with one inverter (Solectria Renewables LLC, model SGI 300 kW), utility and production meters. The solar array (size 328.02 kW) located in the southeast corner of the campus is completed and provides power to the Center. This system will reduce the electrical utility bills for the Center.

Administration Building 5905 is utilized as the main communication service entrance for the center telephone and data systems. Two main T1 lines supplied by Verizon connected to two routers are utilized for local VoIP and MCI for long distance VoIP. The lines enter at the System Administrator's office on the first floor. The center has 25 land lines provided by Verizon for faxes, mail post machine, fire alarm systems and modems. The system hardware is manufactured by Cisco. Each building has Cisco switches and CAT 5 network to connect nodes (Cisco IP phones and computers). The main computer closet is located on the third floor. Routers supply DHCP assignment to center computers via fiber optic cables on physical star topology. Dormitory door alarms and local security for Buildings 5902, 5903, 5904, 5907 and 5908 are monitored in the RA offices. The fire alarm system is individual to each buildings at the moment. Cable TV is provided at some buildings. All low voltage and fiber communications are routed overhead.
