About this file

This document is a Maintenance Inspection procedure for aerial work platform equipment governed by ANSI a92.5-1992 and ANSI a92.5-2006 standards. The systematic inspection is required every 3 months or 150 hours of operation, whichever comes first, or more frequently based on environmental conditions, severity, and usage frequency. Inspections must also be performed after any maintenance work on the machine.

The inspection procedures are organized into two main sections: Chassis and Turntable/Boom Assembly. Chassis inspections include verification of tires, wheel assemblies, axles, drive hubs, motors, brakes, hydraulic systems, pumps, electrical connections, batteries, and hydraulic filters. Turntable and boom inspections cover turntable integrity, lift cylinders, drive motors, swing bearings, ground controls, boom pivot bushings, lower and upper boom lift cylinders, uprights, limit switches, telescope cylinders, platform leveling cylinders, cowl and access doors, pin and shaft hardware, electrical cables, hydraulic lines, and upper boom pads. All inspections focus on detecting damage, wear, loose or missing parts, leakage, corrosion, improper lubrication, and security of components. Hydraulic filter elements must be replaced at recommended intervals, and all switches must be tested for proper function.

Maintenance Inspection

Governed by American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

ANSI a92.5-1992 AND ANSI a92.5-2006

Note: ANSI/SIA 92.5-1992 also requires an annual inspection to be performed. See annual machine inspection report CGF330.

A systematic inspection to assist in detecting defective, damaged, or improperly installed parts. The inspection shall be performed every 3 months or 150 hours whichever comes first, or more often when required by environment, severity, and frequency of usage. This inspection is also to be performed after maintenance has been performed on the machine.

Chassis:

Check front and rear tires and wheel assemblies for loose or worn spindles, components and hardware for security, tires for wear, damage and proper inflation.

Check front and rear axle for loose, missing and worn parts, pivot pin for security.

Check drive hubs for damage and leaks, and motors and brakes for damage.

Check oil level in drive hubs for proper levels, add as required.

Check valves and hydraulic lines for damage, leakage and security.

Check pump/motor and accessories for damage, loose or missing parts, leakage and security.

Check electrical connections for corrosion and tightness and wiring for insulation damage. Check hydraulic filters for condition of element and replace as required.

Check batteries for damage, loose or missing vent caps, electrical connections for tightness and evidence of corrosion, and proper electrolyte level, add as required.

Turntable

Check turntable of damage, loose or missing parts, and security. Check lift cylinders and hydraulic lines for damage, leakage and security. Check drive motors for damage, loose or missing parts, hydraulic lines and component housings for evidence of leakage. Check worm gear for the proper meshing with swing gear.

Check swing bearing for damage, wear, lubrication and loose or missing bearing bolts.

Check valves and hydraulic lines for damage, leakage, security and electrical connections for tightness and evidence of corrosion.

Check ground controls for damage, loose or missing parts, security, electrical connection for tightness and evidence of corrosion and wiring for insulation damage. Check all switches for proper function.

Replace hydraulic filter elements at recommended intervals.

Check all cowl and access doors for damage, proper operation and security.

Check all boom pivot bushings for lubrication and wear.

Check lower boom lift cylinder and hydraulic lines for damage, security and leakage.

Check all pin and shaft retaining hardware for security and wear.

Check all electrical cables for damage, loose and corroded connections.

Check lower boom and leveling link for damage, missing parts and security.

Check all min and shaft retaining hardware for security and wear.

Check limit switch connections and plunger for corrosion and security.

Check limit switch connections and plunger for corrosion and security.

Check upright for damage, wear, lubrication, and security.

Check upper boom lift cylinder an cross pins and hydraulic lines for damage, wear, lubrication, and leakage and security.

Check upper boom for damage, missing parts and security.

Check hydraulic lines mounted on the upright for damage, leakage and security.

Check upper boom pads for damage, missing parts and security.

Check upper boom telescope cylinder, cross pins and hydraulic lines for damage, wear, lubrication, leakage and security.

Check platform leveling cylinder, cross pins and hydraulic lines for damage, wear, lubrication, leakage and security.
