HOT WORK PERMIT

Hot Work Permits are required when any heat, spark or smoke producing operations are conducted in areas not specifically designed for these operations. Specific examples of Hot Work include, but are not limited to: Torch cutting, welding, soldering, grinding, brazing, and open tar operations. All hot work shall be performed in accordance with AC3900. 21f Chapter 24, Fire Protection.

Due to the high hazard associated with hot work in areas not designated for hot work it should be avoided whenever possible. Consider the following before issuing a hot work permit:

• Is it possible to move hot work to an area designed for hot work, equipped with all of the necessary controls?

• Can alternative processes to hot work be used in place of hot work? (e.g. glue, screws, bolts)
