About this file
This is a Memorandum for Record documenting equipment specifications for a federal procurement request. The 76 Maintenance Squadran Group (76 MXSG) at Tinker Air Force Base is requesting funds to purchase one portable Niton XLS Plus or equivalent handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer for alloy analysis. The procurement is identified as M26-110 and was documented on 12 March 2026.
The required equipment must meet specific salient characteristics including the capability to analyze 80 different elements ranging from Magnesium (Mg, atomic number 12) through Uranium (U, atomic number 92) on the Periodic table. The analyzer must provide enhanced performance for light element analysis (Mg, Al, Si, P, and S) without requiring a helium purge or vacuum system. Analysis time should be approximately 1-2 seconds for most applications. The X-ray tube specifications require a minimum of 50kV at 200 microamps with a rhodium (Rh) anode. Additional requirements specify that the instrument must connect to a computer for downloading scans and results, and computer software for managing scans and results must be included with the equipment.
