About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Strategic Materials Directorate for planning purposes only, seeking vendor capability statements regarding the separation and purification of approximately 200 lbs of government-furnished spent 405 catalyst into 99.90% pure iridium metal sponge. The material consists of 3mm to 5mm diameter alumina beads with approximately 30% iridium content by weight. The potential delivery locations include Hammond Depot (Hammond, IN), Hawthorne Depot (Hawthorne, NV), and Scotia Depot (Scotia, NY). Responses must be submitted by August 13, 2026 at 3:00 PM ET to contract specialists Alicia Barrowman and Felicia London via email with the subject line "RFI - Iridium Metal Sponge Separation and Purification."
Vendors must provide comprehensive capability statements addressing general company data (name, structure, GSA/government contracts, socioeconomic status, CAGE code, UEI number, business size, and primary point of contact); detailed process information describing separation and purification methods, process capacity, recovery rates, processing timeline, and analytical capabilities; industry and market information covering both domestic and international iridium metal sponge purification sectors; delivery information including typical lead times, delivery capacity, packaging requirements, and safety considerations; pricing and market conditions; and any additional relevant information. Responses are limited to 20 pages single-sided in Microsoft Word or PDF format with 12-point font maximum and 1-inch margins. This RFI is non-binding, no payment will be made for responses, all submissions become government property, and responding companies should not expect feedback. The government may use this information to develop an acquisition strategy and potential future RFQ.
