LOCATION:

Station 17+50.3 ft., offset -227.7 from crest of dam. At toe of dam.

PURPOSE OF HOLE:

Conduct Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) in the upper alluvial foundation materials to obtain density and strength data. Obtain physical properties on the SPT sampling intervals via laboratory analysis.

DRILLING EQUIPMENT:

Truck mounted CME-85 rotary drill rig;

4-1/4 in. I.D. Hollow Stem Augers (HSA); 5 ft. long, 3 in. I.D. split-tube sample barrel; 3.8 ft. long, 1-3/8 in. I.D.

SPT barrel; NWJ rods; CME 140 lb automatic hammer.

DRILLER:

Cody Kelly; USBR

DRILLING METHODS

0.0 to 14.5 ft. - Advanced drill hole with 4-1/4 in. HSA with centerbit assembly.

14.5 to 97.5 ft. - Continuous SPTs, clean out intervals with 4-1/4 in. I.D. HSA with 5 ft. long split-tube sample barrel.

97.5 to 122.5 ft. - Stopped SPT testing at 97.5 ft. in favor of obtaining a good "undisturbed" core sample of foundation clay (claystone) for lab testing. However, only sandstone was encountered to a depth of 121.5 ft.

Advanced drill hole with 4-1/4 in. I.D.

HSA with 5 ft. long split-tube sample barrel to 122.5 ft. Top of claystone at

121.5 ft.

122.5 to 127.5 ft. - SPT to 124.0 ft. then clean out interval to 127.5 ft.

127.5 to 131.5 ft. - Advanced drill hole Continued next pageCOMMENTS:
