About this file
This is a clarification document (#1 and #2) from Elite Companies regarding piping insulation work at Ann J Kellogg Elementary School for Battle Creek Public Schools. The document addresses RFI responses about piping insulation specifications and includes mechanical plans showing additional spaces in Areas 1 & 4 that were not included in the initial RFP project manual.
The technical clarifications specify that contractors should plan base bids using Armaflex and 520 adhesives on piping and fittings, rather than Tubolet SS or self-seal Armaflex which was noted to have adhesion issues. Regarding chilled water piping thickness, while the specs showed 1/2" for cold water lines, the actual thickness requirements should be determined by the manufacturer's specifications based on water line sizing shown in the existing mechanical plans. The document includes a mechanical drawing showing HVAC plans for the first and second floors, with Areas 1 and 4 highlighted in green and red respectively.

Battle Creek Public Schools: Ann J Kellogg Piping Insulation – Clarification #1
RFI Responses;
Q; In reading the specifications and in Part 3, A. I would not recommend Tubolet SS or any self-seal Armaflex. I have seen this installed on piping and it never stays closed. The adhesive only last temporally. This type is also very porous.
Thoughts?
A; Plan base bid around Armaflex and 520 adhesives on piping and fittings.
Q; I didn’t see the thickness for the chilled water piping on the specs. There was ½” on the cw. I am not sure this would be thick enough for chilled.
A; The specs may not call this out. However, Scope of work should dictate the manufacturer’s product chosen within base bids, should dictate the thickness based on water line sizing. This line sizing is shown on the existing mechanical plans in the project manual.
Plan Revisions;
See attached plans not included in initial RFP project manual. These are additional spaces to Areas 1 & 4.
