About this file
This document is a technical specification sheet for a firestopping system (System No. F-A-1011) issued by 3M Fire Protection Products. The specification details a fire protection solution for metallic pipe penetrations through concrete floors or walls with the following key characteristics:
The system is rated for a 2-hour fire and temperature resistance (F Rating and T Rating of 2 Hr) and applies to concrete assemblies at least 6 inches thick. It accommodates metallic pipes, conduits, or tubing with a maximum opening diameter of 2 inches, including steel pipe, electrical conduit, and copper tubing/pipe up to 1 inch in diameter. The penetration can be installed concentrically or eccentrically with an annular space between 0 and 7/8 inches. The firestop is achieved using 3M CP 25WB+ caulk or FB-3000 WT sealant, applied with a minimum 1/2 inch thickness and a 1/2 inch diameter bead at the penetrant/concrete interface on both sides of the floor or wall.

1. Floor or Wall Assembly – Min 6 in. thick UL Classified hollow-core Precast Concrete Units*. Floor may also be constructed of any min 6
in. thick reinforced lightweight or normal weight (100-150 pcf) concrete. Max diam of opening is 2 in.
See Precast Concrete Units (CFTV) category in the Fire Resistance Directory for names of manufacturers.
2. Through Penetrants – One metallic pipe, conduit or tubing to be installed either concentrically or eccentrically within the firestop system.
Pipe, conduit or tubing to be rigidly supported on both sides of floor assembly. The annular space between pipe, conduit or tubing and periphery of opening shall be min of 0 in. (point contact) to max 7/8 in. The following types and sizes of metallic pipes, conduits or tubings may be used:
A. Steel Pipe – Nom 1 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 5 (or heavier) steel pipe.
B. Conduit – Nom 1 in. diam (or smaller) steel electrical metallic tubing or steel conduit.
C. Copper Tubing – Nom 1 in. diam (or smaller) Type L (or heavier) copper tube.
D. Copper Pipe – Nom 1 in. diam (or smaller) Regular (or heavier) copper pipe.
3. Fill, Void or Cavity Materials* – Caulk or Sealant – Min 1/2 in. thickness of fill material applied within annulus, flush with each surface of floor. Min 1/2 in. diam bead of caulk applied to the penetrant/concrete interface at the point contact location on both sides of floor.
3M COMPANY – CP 25WB+ caulk or FB-3000 WT sealant.
