(PRESERVATION CHECKLIST)
VESSEL NAME HULL # WORK ITEM # WORK ITEM TITLE
LOCATION OF WORK (INCL. FRAME #’S) AREA (SQFT)

3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor shall furnish and install all protective coverings to seal off and protect all non-affected vessel's components, equipment, and spaces near the work area against contamination during the performance of work. Upon completion of work, the Contractor shall remove all installed protective measures, inspect for the presence of contamination, and return all contaminated equipment, components, and spaces to original condition of cleanliness. Ship’s force shall tag out the
Turbine and affected safety components prior to CO2 System testing. Ship’s force shall operate
Woodward Panel during testing.
3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor shall handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec
0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences).
3.2 CO2 system inspections and tests. The Contractor shall coordinate the inspection date and time with the COR. In the presence of the CG Inspector the Contractor shall perform the following. Submit
CFR(s) to document results of the inspections and tests described in 3.2.1 thru 3.2.10.
NOTE
Ship’s force will tag out the gas turbine engine system and will operate the
Woodward Panel during testing.
3.2.1 System components. Inspect all system components thoroughly. Identify problems due to wear and tear, accidental and environmental damage, tampering, or other related changes that would adversely affect the proper performance of the fire protection system.
19 (Rev-1)
3.2.2 Detection and actuation system. The detectors should be checked and cleaned to ensure that they are free of foreign substances. Check the supervisory features of the detection system to determine that the detection system is in satisfactory condition. All manual operating valves shall be operated with the actuating control removed from the pilot cylinders. After testing, controls should be reset and reinstalled.
3.2.3 Piping, hoses, and nozzles. Examine all connections to see that they are secured to the manifold.
Piping should be examined for any evidence of corrosion. Ensure that the selector valves are in the closed position. Piping hangers shall be examined to see that the piping is securely supported. Ensure that the nozzle orifices are clear, unobstructed, and in proper position and orientation. Inspect all hoses for damage and record the hydrostatic test dates on all flexible hoses. Submit a CFR.
NOTE
Flex hoses require a 5 year hydrostatic test and 12 year renewal.
3.2.4 Auxiliary equipment. All auxiliary equipment such as pressure switches, pressure releases, discharge valves, alarms, indicator lights, shall be inspected and tested to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. Warning signs should be located properly and that their instructions are correct.
3.2.5 Storage rack and cylinder assemblies. Inspect the storage rack for tightness, including floor mounting bolts and wall mounting hardware. Inspect the cylinders for evidence of corrosion and the cylinder valves for mechanical damage. The cylinder straps and the outlet fittings connected to the discharge manifold should be checked for tightness.
3.2.6 Electrical system. Inspect the electrical system and test for voltage, continuity and possible grounds without discharging the system. Ensure the Fire Alarm Panel displays the proper fire alarm during testing.
3.2.7 Cylinder weight check. Weigh each of the four (4) 100-lb cylinders. If a cylinder shows a loss in net content of more than 10 percent, the cylinder shall be refilled after approval of the CFR. The empty and full weights of all cylinders are permanently stamped on the cylinder valve bodies. Record the date and the net weight on the tag attached to the cylinder.
WARNING
Cylinders should not be refilled without hydrostatic testing (and re-marking) if more than 5 years have elapsed from the date of the last test. Cylinders which are in continuous service without discharging may be kept in service for a maximum of 12 years from the date of last hydrostatic test.
3.2.8 Discharge delay timer. The Contractor shall test the discharge delay timer. A 30-second time delay and siren are installed in the system to allow for evacuation of personnel.
CAUTION
Always disconnect all pilot cylinder discharge heads before tests to prevent discharge of CO2.
3.2.9 Solenoid pilot valve and pilot-operated discharge head tests. Before proceeding, the Contractor shall ensure that the discharge heads are not connected to the cylinder valves. Check the plunger discharge head to be certain that it is retracted. When the piston is in the non-actuated (retracted) position, the end of the plunger should be approximately ¾” inside the bottom of the union nut of the
20 (Rev-1) discharge head. Energize the actuation circuit for no more than one (1) second. This should energize the solenoid pilot valve causing operation of the discharge head. After proving proper operation of the pilot cylinder discharge head, push the plunger back to non-actuated (retracted) position.
3.2. 10 UV test and system activation. Use a portable UV Test unit to test the operation of the UV sensors the gas turbine enclosure. For each UV sensor testing the Contractor shall document the following and submit a CFR:
FOSV (GTFS-V-025) closes
Vent Damper closes
Cooling Fan stops
Module Lights flashes
Turbine module bell sounds
Siren activates
Alarms on the Woodward panel and Chemtron Fire Control panel activate
3.2.11 For the CO2 fan test, the Contractor shall coordinate the test with the CG Representative to ensure that the Woodward panel is operated correctly. For CO2 fan test the woodward panel must be operated in a specific manner. Must be in “supervisor” mode (Obtain password from ship’s Engineer Officer). All alarms must be cleared. Panel must be in “AUX” mode.
3.2.12 Cylinder Charging. Recharge Cylinder if weight loss exceeds 10% of the weight of the charge.
3.3 System restoration. At the completion of all tests and inspections, the Contractor shall restore the system and ensure that the fire suppression system is ready to operate and the electrical actuating system is energized for automatic operation.
3.4 Touch-up preservation. The Contractor shall prepare and coat all new and disturbed surfaces to match existing adjacent surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, paragraph 3.1.13 (Touch-ups and minor coating repairs.).
