About this file

This document announces a potential federal contract opportunity to restore a painting titled "Here I Am - Send Me" currently on display at the Pentagon. The Department of the Air Force is seeking interested parties to bring the artwork to an "exhibition ready" state according to museum standards, which would include evaluating, assessing, and intervening through preservation, conservation or restoration services as required. The contractor would coordinate transporting the large 103x74 inch painting to and from its restoration location and hanging/removing it at the Pentagon. Respondees should provide their SAM UEI, socioeconomic status, contact information, ability to perform restoration to exhibition standards, and transport and handle the painting. The potential restoration work is for a piece of Air Force art located at the Pentagon headquarters in Washington D.C.

Title: Here I Am - Send Me

Artist: Woodi Ishmael

Artist's Description: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?. . . Here am I: Send Me. Isaiah 6:8 Faith in God has been a mainstay of the American military since its colonial inception. Today, such faith is no differently adhered to as this painting of an Air Force officer and his family reveals. The scene is in the chapel at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Background: The sixth Chief of the Staff of the Air Force, General John P. McConnell officially unveiled the painting from Mr. Woodi Ishmael in 1967. This painting has been on display in the Pentagon since 1967.
