About this file
This document is a conceptual plan for the excavation beneath the conduit as part of the Heart Butte Safety of Dams Modification project. The plan outlines the use of jet grout cutoff walls adjacent to and below the conduit, along with partial excavation of a vertical filter trench to allow access to an untreated foundation window below the conduit. Backfilling of the excavation beneath the conduit with concrete is also specified. The document includes plan and section views detailing the proposed approach.
This conceptual plan is part of the 60% design documents for the DK-AO Heart Butte Safety of Dams Modification project, which has an estimated value between $35,000,000 and $55,000,000. The Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation is the federal agency managing this pre-solicitation opportunity.

NOTES
1. Install jet grout cutoff walls adjacent to and below the conduit using angled drilling as shown on Section A.
2. Excavate a portion of the vertical filter trench as shown to allow horizontal excavation through jet grout cutoff wall and into the untreated foundation window. Verify bottom of untreated foundation window below conduit by drilling confirmation borings into the foundation from within the conduit.
3. Support excavation using slide rail trench system, or similar.
4. Backfill excavation beneath conduit with concrete after removing untreated foundation window.

Jet Grout Cutoff Wall
Concrete Block
NOTES
1. Jet grout zone beneath the conduit assumes angled jet grouting up to 30 degrees from vertical from both sides of the conduit.
5. Temporary support of the conduit will depend on Contractor's means and methods for excavation. Government will determine temporary support after Contractor submits plan for excavation beneath the conduit.
6. After completion of Alternative Cutoff Wall, build vertical filter trench to full depth at elevation 1977.
