Questions and Answers #

32) Specification 01 11 00 Summary of Work; Attachment A (Pgs 4-8) define the CLIN breakdown. The items in the specification do not match the drawings. For example, in the specification, plumbing is shown to be under Construction but on AD1.0 Plumbing is listed under Equipment. Yet another example is the dock levelers. The specification lists them under Maintenance and Repair but AD1.0 lists them as Equipment. Do we follow the specifications or the drawings on this as well as any other discrepancies?

Answer: The specs are intended as a general guideline. Actual bid categories can vary depending on the nature of the work. Follow the drawings.

33) The specs say Min LTTR=30 (07 52 23, section 2.4, sub section A, sub section 2) but the roof plan says LTTR=25 (A4.0); please clarify.

Answer: The overall thickness of the new insulation and the cover board shall be 4 ½” so as to match the overall height of the three existing 2x_wood nailers shown in the roof edge details B/A4.0 and C/A4.0.

34) The specification states standard bonding adhesive. Alexandria (and any city north of Richmond) will not allow VOC bonding adhesive shipped to it. This job must be done with LVOC bonding adhesive. This is a federal EPA requirement. Is the contractor to quote the project using VOC or LVOC bonding adhesive?

Answer: Spec 07 53 23-2.3-A-1a states “Liquid type auxiliary materials shall meet VOC limits of authorities having jurisdiction.” Comply with local reqirements.

35) Is the architect requesting a 120 mph wind rider warranty (uncommon except on the coast) or are they requesting that the roof resist the uplift pressures caused by a 120 mph wind. There is a big difference in terms of cost and the specification is vague here. Ultimate wind speeds are used in ASCE 10 but the specs says ASCE 7. Please clarify.

Answer: AE Recommendation (see attached for explanation) : Revise Specification Section 07 53 23 EPDM ROOFING, Paragraph 1.8-A-1c to “Warranty shall include roofing damage resulting from wind speeds up to and including 55 mph (3-second gust speed at 33 feet above ground for exposure category indicated) following UFC 3-110-03 Roofing, Section 2-2.7 in accordance with ASCE 7 uplift requirements.”

36) There is a discrepancy with what the wood veneer should be for the solid core wood doors with transparent finish. If you look on the door schedule for solid core wood doors with S-1 finish, you will find on the interior finishes legend that the doors will be made to match plastic laminate Renolit Alkoren Geneva C-42250. However, in the division 8 section of the specifications (Flush Wood Doors 08 14 16- 3), the doors for transparent finish are called for to be Rift cut Red Oak pre-finished with satin catalyzed polyurethane. Please clarify

Answer: Wood type should be rift-cut red oak. Stain color should match plastic laminate (PL-1).

37) On the A12.4 Drawings, there are multiple times the “ID” Drawings are mentioned. But there are no ID drawings included in what has been sent to us. Are these drawings needed to have a proper and complete take-off done of the signage and mounting systems?

Answer: See A12.2 - General Note 2 and A12.3 - General Note 2".
